This is a great car for getting around on. The maintenance is very reasonable also. I get great mileage and drive for a weeks on one tank of gas. Ive driven this car on long trips and its very comfortable to drive. Oct 27, 2014

All in all a fantastic car if maintained. Parts are still easy to come by, and the 1.9L 4 cylinder is simple enough to perform most operations in the driveway. My experience with Ford in general taught me that they didn't manufacture any good transmissions, but with such low miles, 52k, I have yet to find any problems.Sep 06, 2014

average family car with lots of room for carrying large objects. only draw back is
it's age now. still doesn't burn oil. gear box is wonderful. not fast but again fast

I bought it from a family member who was the first owner. At 130K, and seventeen years of age, it's now going through its change of life. I hear that they can turn out to be fairly durable... but I'm not sure that I have the patience to find out the end of the story. Apr 08, 2012

Great overall car. I have only had minor issues
with it since I bought it in 95. I have put 165000
miles on it and the only wok other than maintenance has been replacing the timing belt. I
will buy another ford escort I think in the

First car, cheap to run and was great fun to drive and pretty easy to work on, apart from all the rust lol
Performance mods are 10 a penny so making one yours is just a question of taste.

Great car on gas, but of course she was a stick shift, which made her fun to drive. Didn't have to do a whole lot of work to this car just get in an drive. I got my money out of her for the time I owned her. Tough little car, it took a beating and keep on going. It is still going today. The friends that brought it still drive it daily. the transmission seems to be the only thing wrong like it has an automatic transmission but have to shift it. overall its a really gret car to drive it'll live long and not die... hopefully. the brakes work and doesnt really have any rust. Jan 11, 2010

Firstly its not a 2 dr gt. its a 2 door rs2000 4x4.
i love the four wheel drive, it makes the car handle beautifully, and if you want to go nuts just push it a bit and you have some proper isideways fun!!!
and the arse hugging recaros are lovely!!

deteriorating with age, like any car, really!
Few knock on exterior. Interior Ok but beginning to
show its age.
Inexpensive to own and run.

Very Reliable.Acceleration not very good,braking good, handling very very good.very economical ( Diesel) Maintenance Better change timing belts (2) in time.

Pros:
It was a good first car for me.
It wasn't that uncomfortable, even though I was 6'3 and 270 lbs.
It NEVER broke down. I had a fouled spark plug once, took me 3 minutes to diagnose and replace.
Gas milage was awesome. I barely ever had to put gas in this thing.
It didn't have hubcaps!
It got me wherever the hell I wanted to go, cheaply and effortlessly.
Cons:
In less than a year, I had to go through 9 tires, due to vandals slashing them.
Someone stole my radio, in my rage I kicked the fender in, lmao.
This car has 88 horsepower. It is not for anyone looking for a powerful car. My 16 year old balls were blue due to this total lack of power.
The interior was like an odd mixture of tan with fruity rainbow colored stuff on the seats. Ew.
This car was not fun to drive at all.
Cons for me:
I associate this car with quite a numerous amount of ex girlfriends. Ew x2.
I totalled it. Sweet points on my insurance, dood!

It's slow and not exactly what you would call a hotrod. On the otherhand, it is a good car if you are looking for something reliable with good gas milage. It isn't a car that you would want to get if you are planning on going racing.Dec 08, 2008

Excellent running car. Over 200,000 miles and counting. It has needed several minor repairs over the past two years but this is to be expected with an older vehicle. I love this car! Its a four banger with a 5 speed manual n about 170k miles on it. If you treat it nicely, you can squeeze 41+ miles to the gallon out of it. The only downside is that when parts go bad they all go at once. I just put a brand new clutch in and replaced the exhaust, now it purrs like a kitten.Sep 09, 2008

I payed 40 pounds so cant complain. it starts and drives. its reliable and not a smokey noisey banger.. only 84k on the clock to so thats a plus. Its nippy and easy to drive. not too many creature comforts but it is a ford not a mercedes. hasnt let me down as of yet.Sep 06, 2008

The performance of this car is pretty good, it has a 6V motor, reaches to 100MPH in 10 seconds which isnt so bad for a car of the 1995s, the cost of the ownership was about $1.200. its a good car and it runs good and cheap on gas. it would be a good car to start up with....Aug 01, 2008

It had a lot of room and good gas mileage but
performance was sluggish, as would be expected. I
didn't have to pay for a lot of regular work on the car

I've owned two Escorts now, my first was a 2.0 LX TD, which I wrote off when the Cam belt snapped. I now own a 1.6 Ghia.
The build quality is better than the LX TD and is on the whole more comfortable to drive. It's currently going through a redevelopment, I'm patching up all the bodywork issues and making sure it is mechanically sound. I'll add more photos when it is all sorted.Jun 10, 2008

Good Reliable gas saver. Performance Is horrible, The engine has trouble getting the car up to highway speeds, but for 30 mpg i will take that, Never has broke down on me, and i have driven it places it never should have gone, If you're careful enough, you can drive places most people think you need a pickup to get to.Jun 06, 2008

Having designed the car in 1988-89, i waited until i had set up my own Design Consultancy, and after a year, felt that i should treat myself to one of the last cars produced.
I even had a friend arrange to buy it, using his Ford Company car discount scheme, and so was able to get the higher Lux spec as well.
I used the car as my regular daily transport, for some 60000 miles between 1995 and 2000, despite attempts by several t-nucs to try to steal it.
I drive it today when i need a "s*it day by-pass", as it gets the cobwebs out of your brain, and gives you true automotive thrills, by the bucket load.
Plus it still has the ability to turn heads and respect from small boys and lifelong petrol-heads.

Car died while driving, cranked but would not start again (still had power)
Hey guys, just looking for a general direction to go with trying to get my car fixed. Pretty much what the topic says: I was driving along and noticed a sudden loss in power (almost felt like I hit something, but I didnt) and then my engine shut off. My radio and lights were still on so it wasnt a battery issue as far as I could tell. The car cranks but wont turn on. My battery is also currently dead from repeated cranking.

Interference engine
My car's timing belt and water pump broke the other day. I was going at a very slow speed when my car just shut off and no longer worked. We took it to the shop and he said that I had an interference engine and it's possible that my engine is totally shot after this. But I was wondering if because I was going a slow enough speed that the pistons probably didn't damage. However my mother did try to start the car multiple times (I regret calling her may I add) and I don't know if that would actually cause any damage regardless of how slow I was going.
