1991 Audi 90 Preview summaryImage

A family car that's safe and comfortable, but also aerodynamically styled for optimum performance and speed? Add to that some standard luxury features all for one base price, and you've got the 1991 Audi 90. The Audi 90 represents a good starter family car for those who also want a little style and attitude.

There were few changes to the 1991 Audi 90. The front-wheel drive sedan now came standard with a four-speed automatic instead of the manual transmission featured in the quattro. Both four-door sedans were powered by a 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder engine, but the quattro hit 164-hp to the sedan's 130-hp. The quattro, besides featuring all-wheel drive, also sported a rear spoiler. Otherwise, the two trims shared standard features, such as air conditioning, power sunroof, power heated mirrors, power windows and locks, ABS brakes, and cruise control.

The 1990 Audi 90 is fast, owners say, especially the quattro, which adds a more stable, smoother ride and can take on rough road and weather conditions with ease and tight handling. The Audi 90 lives up to its company's reputation for sturdy, safe, yet stylish vehicles. The standard features surpass those offered in comparable models. Some drivers wish there was more space in the back seat and trunk. Mostly, they complain about costly parts and the scarcity of good Audi mechanics.

Shift heavier. Gas mileage was not great but has all the luxury settings an old car can have, heated seat and automatic seat adjustment. Some of the newer cars do not even have all these. Style is OK consider it is an 1991 carSep 09, 2009

To hear the words "2.3 litre 5 cylinder engine" doesn't exactly stir people into fits of anxiety. Most will ask you how a 5 cylinder can possibly work... Audi has proven it can, and extremely well. For over 10 years, the 5 cylinder engine was a staple of the Audi family line-up. Most cars could be optioned with it and even the first of the top-performance 'S' series of Audi used the magnificent 5 cylinder (oh, they also had a bit of a reputation in rallying. A bit...). When Audi made a double over-head cam, 4 valve per cylinder version they unleashed a totally new beast. This was a well-proven, durable and reliable engine that now had enough power to seriously excite. And that was before they bolted on a turbo. The car I've driven (quite often) is a naturally aspirated 20v quattro. The engine sings for it's supper, and the torque-sensing (TORSEN) quattro system makes this a seriously potent little machine. The only limit to how fast you want to corner is how big your bal.. er, bravados, are. First gear is a bit short, and low down the rev range isn't where the excitement is. It's only once the tacho needle is screaming it's way around to the 7000 RPM redline that things start to get interesting. So unless you bag it up and drop the clutch off the line, it tends to bog down on take-off. It makes up for it when it's moving though, and in-gear acceleration is impressive. Get the right gear and the right revs and the punch from that engine is staggering. Parts prices can make you cry, and being well over 15 years of age now, they're all going to require some work. I couldn't drive it every day though. I'd lose my license! Imagine what a turbo version is like?!Jul 22, 2008

I bought this car in 2006. These Audi 90's Quattros are rare. Superb 5 cylinder engine kicking out around 175bhp. Superb Handling with the 4X4. Body work is good as they were rust proofed. Interia is what let these down very basic.Dec 28, 2007
