1990 Audi 90 Preview summaryImage

Using numbers is a handy way to keep track of the status level of cars (and thereby the status of their owners!). In this vein, the 1990 Audi 90 falls somewhere between the starter car Audi 80 and the more upscale Audi 100 luxury sedan. In fact, the Audi 90 is simply a higher-end version of the 80, offering that much more comfort, sportiness, and luxury, but not quite as much as the Audi 100.

Available as either a regular sedan or a quattro, both trims feature a 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine and 5-speed manual transmission. A 3-speed automatic transmission is optional. ABS brakes are standard on both models. The quattro adds a rear spoiler, fog lights, sport-style seats, and leather upholstery, in keeping with its rugged image. A quattro coupe is powered by the same engine, but tuned to reach 164 horsepower, and decked out with leather seats, wood trim, and extra sport-inspired gauges.

There are many things to like about the Audi 90, according to owners. It's sportier than the 80 in both looks and performance, offers a ton of standard features, and boasts good handling, power, and brakes. The quattro is a monster in snowy or rough road conditions. And even more important, the Audi 90, like all Audis, seems to run forever and never look a year older. Don't be suprised if your Audi reaches 300,000km (186,000 miles! How does it do it? Much has to do with a special durable zinc coating that prevents the wear and tear and age spots that afflict many cars. Audi is known for hugely expensive parts and repairs, and that remains the number one complaint among owners. Some also feel the back seat and trunk could be bigger.

All wheel drive, fantastic handling, no body roll due to the suspension, five cylinder n/a, the sound is unlike anything you've ever heard. Performance from the engine is alright, it needs a turbo. The car is A LOT of fun.Dec 26, 2009

This car was a beauty to drive but when the mileage hit 70K all hell broke loose. There wasn't anything that didn't need replacing and anything that could go wrong did. I was really sad to part with it though but the whole ront end was shot and my mechanic wouldn't let me drive it on the freeway. It must not have put me off Audis though as I have one now.Nov 25, 2008

I LOVE THIS CAR!! It's had some electrical issues, which is hard and expensive to fix because of it's rarity. But it handles better than any car I have ever driven (including some higher end sports cars). It has the 5 cyl 20 valve engine that most people put into their cars, and is easy to turbo and get more power. Stock, it's not a super fast car, it's more for handling. Anyways, I've been in love with this car for almost 10 years and I think I'd rather sell my husband.Jul 19, 2008
