The 1989 Honda Accord was the last of that generation. Borrowing an idea from the previous generation, Honda said goodbye to the third generation Accord by offering a luxurious special edition. Otherwise, the Accord stayed mostly the same.
The 1989 Accord came in several varieties, including the DX, the LX, the LX-I and the SE-I. The DX and LX were available as a sedan, coupe, or wagon, and the SE-I was a coupe only. The DX was the base model, while upgrading to the LX gets power windows and doors, while the loaded LX-I gets a bigger engine. The special edition SE-I was luxuriously equipped, with leather seats, a Bose sound system, and alloy wheels. The base engine was a 2.0-liter 98 horsepower four cylinder, while the LX-I and SE-I came with a 2.0-liter, 120 horsepower four cylinder.

I love everything about this car. It has power everything. The performance of the car is ok for the typical sedan. The exhaust has seen better days so thats the first performance mod Im doing. The only thing that I had to fix was the fuel pump.(Thats right I fix my own cars). The appearance is very good for a 89. The main thing is the faded out trim that Im painting gloss black.
July 20, 2009I have had the 89 LX for 20 years and I still enjoy driving it. Reliable solid performance and classic lines. Never thought I would end up driving it for 20 years, but it is still fun to drive so why make a payment?

February 18, 2008I bought this car on craigslist for $650- it runs great no problems so far. What I really love about this car besides its cool headlights is how spacious it is inside, trunk wise and how wide all the windows are.
February 26, 2010The honda accord 3rd Generation is a reliable and dependable car. It comes in either a 1.6 or 2.0 liter engine variants and for the time period, had excellent performance with the 2.0 engines producing over 120BHP. There was also a high performance version sold only in europe and japan with a DOHC 2.0 Liter engine which produced 160BHP
September 2, 2009my son's first car out of college. when he moved to japan I bought it for my daughter to drive in high school and college. In 1998 I swapped my 1996 honda for the 89 cause I thought it would be more reliable for her in Atlanta. Eleven years later I am still driving the 89 accord. Except for a few things that have failed like ac, cruise it still runs great, has no rattles or squeeks, and the steering is better than any car I have ever driven. You just point the car where you want it to go and it doesnt wander at all. Amazing for a 20 year old car!! I like this car so much I am even considering a quality paint job with original paint (black with a gold fleck) I know, I know it will cost more than the car is worth in the market but I would completely restore this car (if I had the money)so a good paint job might not bust the budget.
April 23, 2009I love my car! It gets about 45-50 MPG on the highway. It has a strong build. The car is perfict. But there were not many built. It being a standerd makes it a realy fun car to drive.
December 18, 2009With a 2.0 Single overhead cam engine sporting a 2 barrel carb. Manual transmission, 2 stage NOS, light weight, 17 inch Rims and Low profile tires. 35 miles to the gallon makes it affordable, and the engine can take some serious punishment. Only problem with her is she is sedan instead of a coupe.
