1975 Volkswagen Beetle Preview summaryImage

Volkswagen made a number of upgrades to the engine of its popular Beetle for 1975. For starters, the automaker replaced the Beetle's carburetor with fuel injection, and added a Fuel Injection badge to the rear engine lid. The engine case was made from a different metal alloy, called AS21, which made it more efficient at shedding heat. Other improvements were made to the Beetle's clutch and tailpipe.

In addition, VW continued its trend of offering limited-edition Beetles by introducing La Grande Bug, which was either a Super Beetle or convertible equipped with a sunroof, cord seat inserts, a rosewood dash, sports GT wheels, and special bumpers. It was available in metallic blue, gold, or green.

The standard Beetle was equipped with the 1600 four-cylinder, air-cooled engine that generated 58 horsepower, as well as with a dual braking system, four-wheel independent suspension, and a flow-through ventilation system.

In addition, standard features for the Beetle included seat belts for the driver and passengers, two-speed windshield wipers with a pneumatic washer system, swiveling sun visors, coat hooks, assist straps, folding rear seats, and luggage space under the front hood and in a three-foot carpeted compartment behind the rear seats. A convertible top was optional.

Where do I start? I've wanted a Beetle since I was a child and finally got one four years ago. I adore old cars and VW's are my absolute favourites, they remind me of happy days and summer holidays when I was youngSep 11, 2012

For the year it is a great car. Has two small rust spots. Starter button has been moved to the floor to avoid theft. The carpets are new and so are the seats. She has all trim and hub caps. The trunk lid does not sit tight on the seats. Trunk latch will not open every time it sticks.Jan 14, 2012

Great Car. For this reason has it kept on working for more than 35 years. The car's performance is OK. Handling tends to be great although acceleration and breaking are quite slow. The car is fun to drive yet expensive to maintain due to its age and lack of parts.Sep 04, 2010
