My 71 super beatle doesn’t go up hill (no power)
I did a tune up but engine still has no power. Starts right up,idles fine, revs up but when I try to go up a hill there’s no power.

This is the 6th bug I have owned. I love everything about this car. I love that its sitting up on 15's. I love driving it: the pickup, the sound, the smell. I love working on this car. I love the fact that I can still afford and get OEM parts for this car. I really love that I can get away from road bullying SUV's and ride tractor trailer tailwinds with this car. I love that this car is made of metal not plastic. I love that it is air-cooled and has the engine in the back. I love that I can still push this car off the road when I run out of gas! I started out using this car as a joy ride, but it soon became my daily driver. The is nothing like being behind the wheel of a genuine VW.Sep 23, 2013

Love the car, bought it for my 16 year old son. Trying to get it driving better. When it runs it runs well. Looks awesome and the 16 year old loves everything about it. EXCEPT that he cant just crank and drive whenever he wants. Looking for some experienced opinions to get the most out of this beautiful car. Thanks!!!Jul 09, 2011

* Performance - acceleration, braking, handling - Good
* Build Quality - has it needed repairs? squeaks/rattles - Good
* Appearance - both interior and exterior styling - Super Cute
* Cost of Ownership - gas mileage, maintenance - Had the engine re-built and new transmission a while back
* Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive? Super Fun...it just looks fun doesn't it?

I love my Lilly. The paint on the outside it in good shape it has some rust. It needs a new top on it and not to mention that my husband hit a deer in it last summer and now we have to put a new hood on or have this one fixed if that is possible. We always get looks and people saying the it is a very cute car and I have to say that I do agree with thatApr 29, 2010

handling was great because you couldent reach an unsafe speed. was on fire alot. and the parts are super cheap...but you'll need all of them. But everyone in town has a look at your car cause its a beetle.Nov 21, 2009

It is fast and it is crazy fun to drive. Super loud and great on gas but bottom line its just a for fun car. It has a performance built super beetle engine. The one my dad has has a red white and blue theme and a spoiler and mickey thompson offroad tires.Sep 23, 2009

Performance: handles well on the highway, motors right along at any speed, brakes well
Build Quality: built well, top seals and rubber have needed attention, gas heater cooks you out, never stuck in snow with rear engine
Cost of ownership: gas mileage is great, maintenance is average like most cars.
Fun Factor: I have driven many many cars, from luxury suvs to sporty MB convertibles. Nothing has ever been as fun as this car!Jul 04, 2008

Generator light stays on when the car is off. I replaced the voltage regulator, but that did not fix it. Help!
I changed the battery in my 1971 Super beetle and it sparked and blew the radio. It also caused the Generator light to stay on when the car is off. I have to unplug the cable from the Voltage Regulator to the battery or it kills the battery. I replaced the voltage regulator, but that did not fix it. Help!

VW super beetle 1971 (TL 1.6L) cylinders 1 & 2 not working.
VW super beetle 1971 (TL 1.6L) cylinders 1 & 2 not working. Engine was recently re-bult with 88 mm cylinders and had been working good for about a day or so. Heads were re-build. new carburator. I have verified compression (>120 psi), timing, it has spark to all cylinders, anyway had replaced coil and distributor, spark pulgs and cables, verified valve calibration, firing order, etc. but still these two cylinders do not work. Any ideas or suggestions on where to look, will be greatly appreciated.

Trying to get my vw started?
I have a 1971 vw super beetle! My question Is it cranks like it want to start but doesn’t! I was thinking it was the battery so got a new one an still the same thing! if the spark plugs are not on right would that be the case!

Carburetor will not fill with fuel.
I have a 71 VW Super Beetle with stock engine. My problem is my carburetor will not fill fuel bowl with gas. It is a new unit, I have replaced fuel pump and fuel tank. I have checked fuel line from tank to pump with compressed air and it is clear. Oddly, this is the second new carb I have installed with the same problem with both. I removed fuel line form carb and placed in a bottle to che k fuel flow from pump and there is sufficient flow. I can pour gasoline into fuel vent on carb to fill fuel bowl and car will run fine until fuel bowl is empty. It seems that needle valve is not opening to allow fuel to flow into bowl, but it is odd that two carbs would have the same problem. Any ideas? Thanks !
