Is the Toyota Sequoia a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Sequoia earns strong marks from owners across its long run, and the all-generations owner rating is 4.63/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Sequoia for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong towing performance. Comfort, cargo room, and family-friendly practicality also come up often in reviews, especially for road trips and everyday hauling.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs are fuel economy, third-row space, and cargo room, especially in recent expert-tested years. Some recent models also bring a truck-like ride and a cabin that feels more utilitarian than upscale.
31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Sequoia models reliable?

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to age, mileage, and maintenance history than to the model’s core reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Sequoia?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 98.5% |

| 2016 | 57.8% |

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5
- Infotainment: 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Which Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Sequoia offers these trims:
- SR5: The entry point to the lineup, with the Sequoia’s core full-size SUV capability and family-hauling layout.
- Limited: A step up for shoppers who want more equipment while staying close to the value end of the range.
- Platinum: Adds a more upscale feel and serves as the foundation for the 1794 Edition.
- 1794 Edition: Builds on the Platinum with machined-finish 20-inch wheels, more exterior chrome, Saddle Tan leather upholstery, open pore American walnut wood trim, and all-weather floor mats; it suits buyers who want the most distinctive luxury presentation.
- TRD Pro: The off-road-focused trim in the lineup.
- Capstone: The top-end trim in the lineup.
What Toyota Sequoia do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Sequoia years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,231 | 34.3% |
| 2024 | 1,220 | 36.3% |
| 2023 | 839 | 34.8% |
| 2026 | 724 | 34.4% |
| 2022 | 391 | 35.5% |
| 2018 | 271 | 32.5% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be the most visible choices because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price and equipment mix. They also tend to be the easiest years to shop if you want a broad selection of trims and deal quality.

Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.87% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.69%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 34.3% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 36.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $71,059. The Toyota Sequoia offers strong towing ability and a spacious, family-ready layout.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Sequoia comes standard with what Toyota calls an i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. It includes a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, a 1.87-kilowatt-hour nickel metal hydride battery pack, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
- Tech: Our Sequoia 1794 Edition test vehicle was equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Safety: Every 2025 Sequoia has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5), a collection of driving assistance features.
- Starting price: Prices range from $62,425 to $83,915, plus the destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The Toyota Sequoia has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, primarily for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong performance, especially in towing. Drivers frequently highlight its comfortable ride and ample cargo space as standout features, making it a great choice for families and road trips. However, a common criticism is its fuel economy, which many consider to be below expectations, especially for a full-size SUV. Additionally, some owners have expressed disappointment regarding outdated interior designs and the limited tech features in earlier models. Despite these drawbacks, the Sequoia remains a solid option for those prioritizing space and dependability.

This is my 4th Toyota suv. I’ve had a ‘00 4runner, ‘07 RAV4, and a 2016 4runner. My first time experiencing the Sequoia Limited’s v8 and have absolutely loved it. This is our dream family car. The space is incredible, the power, and durability of Toyotas never cease to amaze me. It’s perfect for mountain life daily ascents and descents. Has the best turn radius of any full sized suv I’ve driven - making it super friendly for switchback roads and city outings as well. I know this will be the adventure-forward family hauler we were looking for. We bought high mileage (> 200k) with zero hesitation since we know Toyotas well and this beast will get us at least 10 years of drivability. You know when you buy a Toyota you’re not getting the most luxe experience from a creature comforts perceptive. It’s important to note that a vehicle that starts no matter what is more important to us than having Bluetooth etc. but the experience still feels luxurious with many adapters on the market these days.

I love everything about the Sequoia except for the cargo space.

Dealership was honest. Truck has a completely rusted frame. Engine sounds good. Interior was clean. The only reason the buy this is fir a frame swap or to take the engine/transmission and parts. I wouldn't pay more 2500 for it. I honestly think it would have a hard time passing NC inspection. I would trust driving it for maybe 3 or 4 years.

smooth ride and tons of features. I think the price is high for a used vehicle even though they are dependable. the vehicle has everything except for options to add more control switches. would only compare to suburban for space however not for dependability

Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a redesigned full-size SUV that brings a more advanced cabin and a standard hybrid powertrain. It is about the same size on the outside as the outgoing model, but it gives up interior volume to make room underneath the cabin for that hybrid setup. That tradeoff helps define the Sequoia’s character: it is modern and technologically current, but it does not deliver the expansive interior expected from a traditional full-size SUV.
For buyers, the Sequoia’s strengths are straightforward. It has a powerful engine, easy-to-use technology, and standard advanced safety features. Those qualities make it appealing as a family hauler with a strong feature set. The main drawbacks are just as clear, though. The ride quality is poor, the third row is cramped and best reserved for kids, and cargo space is limited enough that it is on par with midsize crossovers rather than full-size rivals.
