What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz GLS?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |

| 2020 | 76.6% |
| 2019 | 71.5% |
| 2018 | 64.7% |
| 2017 | 63.4% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2020 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
- Infotainment: New for 2027, the standard Superscreen is actually three 12.3-inch screens in one dashboard-spanning housing, and the screens run a new version of the MBUX infotainment system based on Mercedes’ own MB.OS operating system, developed in-house.
- Fuel efficiency: Mercedes expects the six-cylinder GLS 450 to achieve 21 mpg combined (19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway) in EPA testing.
Which Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS offers these trims:
- GLS 450 4Matic: The six-cylinder model brings 375 horsepower, 413 pound-feet of torque, standard leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and the new Superscreen; it suits buyers who want the core GLS experience.
- GLS 580 4Matic: This V8 model adds 530 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, plus the stronger performance and more traditional Mercedes V8 character that make it the best-value upgrade for buyers who want more power.
- AMG GLS 63: The performance model adds a 603-hp twin-turbo V8, a performance-tuned transmission and suspension, a limited-slip differential, and beefier brakes.
- Maybach GLS 680: The ultra-luxury model adds the highest-output V8, extra chrome, 22-inch monobloc wheels, and the most exclusive presentation in the lineup.
What Mercedes-Benz GLS do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz GLS years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,672 | 32.4% |
| 2024 | 1,528 | 32.5% |
| 2023 | 1,331 | 33% |
| 2026 | 1,053 | 31.6% |
| 2018 | 969 | 33.1% |
| 2022 | 921 | 32.8% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a wider spread of pricing. They also sit close enough to the newest generation to deliver modern features while still offering used-car value.
What is the Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | $31,827 | −16.11% |
| 2022 | $46,072 | −15.56% |
| 2024 | $70,126 | −12.93% |
| 2018 | $20,722 | −12.32% |
| 2019 | $23,155 | −12.0% |
| 2025 | $78,956 | −11.62% |
| 2023 | $63,618 | −9.85% |
| 2021 | $46,449 | −9.14% |
| 2017 | $17,726 | −8.79% |
Most GLS model years are down by double digits year over year, which creates better opportunities for used buyers. The newer years in the table are also seeing meaningful price drops, so recent-model shoppers may find stronger value than they would expect. The smallest declines are still negative, but they show that some years are holding up better than others.
The 2017, 2021, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Missing air vents. Check engine light on for 02 sensors. A few small dents. Price is actually 28k without trade in.

Just a fantastic SUV. Extremely comfortable and handles great. The biggest issue is just awful gas mileage. Maybe 10/12 in the city if youre lucky.

Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS stands out as a large luxury SUV that emphasizes space, comfort, and a premium feel. It offers three rows of seating for six or seven people and up to 94 cubic feet of cargo space, making it one of the roomiest vehicles in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup. At the same time, it is positioned as a midsize SUV that blends the comfort and space of the S-Class luxury sedan with some off-road capability, which gives it a distinctive role in the brand’s range.
For 2018, the GLS450 received a new wheel design, and the lineup also included a diesel GLS350d, a GLS450 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 making 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, a GLS550 with a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 making 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, and the AMG GLS63 with a hand-built 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque. Standard equipment was generous, with features such as 4Matic all-wheel drive, Airmatic air suspension, heated front seats, a sunroof, power-folding third-row seats, an eight-inch touchscreen, and a backup camera. That combination of capability, luxury, and strong powertrain choices is a major part of the GLS’s appeal.
There are a few tradeoffs, though. The GLS’s third-row access is not especially easy, and some owners also wish for more interior space than they expected. Even so, the 2018 GLS remains appealing for buyers who want a comfortable, well-equipped three-row Mercedes-Benz with a strong emphasis on refinement and available performance.
