| 2019 | $41,257 | $39,233 – $42,380 |
| 2018 | $39,304 | $37,424 – $39,640 |
| 2015 | $23,301 | $20,918 – $23,712 |

The main trade-offs center on polarizing design and technology that can feel unintuitive. 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

What should I look for when buying a used Lexus LS?
Across all model years, at 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 100% |
| 2025 | 92.3% |
| 2024 | 91.9% |
| 2023 | 84.6% |
| 2022 | 82.2% |
| 2021 | 76.3% |
| 2020 | 77.4% |
| 2019 | 72% |
| 2018 | 65.9% |
| 2017 | 60.4% |
| 2016 | 47.5% |
| 2015 | 54.7% |
| 2014 | 52.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2020 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams
- Infotainment: the onboard owner’s manual with videos, 360-degree camera system, navigation with custom routes, and the 23-speaker Mark Levinson stereo
- Fuel efficiency: 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for RWD models; 18/27 for AWD; 25/33 (RWD) and 23/31 (AWD) for the hybrid
Which Lexus LS trim should I buy?
The 2018 Lexus LS offers...
- LS 500: The regular LS 500 gives you the core luxury-sedan experience with the twin-turbo V6, 10-speed automatic, and a cabin that can be specified with laser-cut glass trim, origami fabric, herringbone wood, and other exotic materials. It suits you if you want the full flagship feel and the broadest mix of comfort and style.
- LS 500 F Sport: The LS 500 F Sport adds a more driver-focused setup with rear-axle steering, active stabilizer bars, staggered summer tires, variable-ratio steering, adaptive air suspension, and stiffer tuning. It is the best-value trim if you want the sharpest handling and the most distinctive driving character.
- LS 500h: The LS 500h adds the gas-electric hybrid powertrain with two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and 354 combined horsepower. It suits you if you want the hybrid setup and the smooth, seamless power delivery that comes with it.
What Lexus LS do most buyers choose?
The Lexus LS years with the most listings are 2018, 2019, and 2017.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 208 | 31.3% |
| 2019 | 207 | 28.5% |
| 2017 | 207 | 33.3% |
| 2014 | 204 | 32.4% |
| 2015 | 172 | 32.6% |
| 2016 | 141 | 33.3% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find a well-priced example. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and lower used-car pricing.
What is the Lexus LS's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | $41,257 | −2.65% |
| 2015 | $23,301 | −1.78% |
| 2018 | $39,304 | −0.61% |
| 2014 | $20,479 | +0.27% |
Most of the listed model years are moving down slightly year over year, which can work in your favor if you're shopping used. One year is essentially flat to slightly up, so the pattern is mixed rather than uniformly falling. The 2014 and 2018 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year. The 2014, 2018, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Lexus LS safe?
- 2018: 9/10 Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. For the safest used buy, the 2018 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Lexus LS now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2019 model is at −2.65% versus a year ago, and the 2018 model is at −0.61%.
- Deal availability: The 2019 model has 28.5% good and great deals, and the 2018 model has 31.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $39,304. The Lexus LS offers a quiet cabin, premium interior materials, and a smooth, substantial luxury feel that makes it especially appealing as a used flagship sedan.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The LS 500 comes with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, while the LS 500h has 354 combined horsepower and fuel economy rated at 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway for RWD models.
- Tech: Lexus Concierge syncs seat and steering-wheel temperature, and the 360-degree cameras can automatically pan around the vehicle.
- Safety: Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous control on marked highways, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.
- Starting price: The $75,000 base price offers a lot of amenities.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

Now in its fifth generation, the LS made its reputation taking on established luxury brands, offering similar levels of glitz and refinement with better build quality and reliability. Today’s LS, which dates back to the 2018 model year, continues that mission by taking on the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
What are the advantages of the Lexus LS?

- Powerful engine
What is the best Lexus LS model year?
The earliest iterations of the Lexus LS were excellent luxury sedans that have proven surprisingly durable, but they’re also now old enough to be considered collector cars. The newer generations are more complex, but still don’t offer the laundry list of features rival brands do. Yet while the LS arguably peaked early, newer models will still make for good daily drivers.
What are the disadvantages of the Lexus LS?
- Fairly pedestrian performance
- Unintuitive technology
- Anonymous styling
Comparison: Is the Lexus LS better than the BMW 7 Series?
The Lexus LS is the polar opposite of the BMW 7 Series. The German luxury sedan is sporty and complex; the Japanese one is cushy and simple. A used LS is likely a better bet in terms of reliability, but other than that the choice really depends on your preference.
Is the Lexus LS a reliable car?
First-generation LS models are famously long-lived, and Lexus has tried to maintain that level of reliability with more recent models.
Is the Lexus LS worth the cost?
While not cheap, the LS is spacious and comfortable—as a luxury flagship should be. Its relatively simplicity compared to German luxury sedans should also mean fewer maintenance headaches over the course of ownership.
