Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the Jeep Wrangler is a strong fit if you want a vehicle with a clear identity and a devoted owner base. The all-generations owner rating is 4.55/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Wrangler’s off-road capability, rugged design, and fun driving experience. They also value its iconic styling and customization potential, which help make it feel distinctive year after year.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2023 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs across recent expert-reviewed years center on poor fuel economy, noise, and a ride that can feel rough on pavement. Those compromises are part of the Wrangler’s character, so it works best if you care more about capability and personality than everyday refinement.
31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Jeep Wrangler models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently highlight the Wrangler’s rugged character, off-road strength, and fun driving experience. Across the model years, that strong identity is a major part of why shoppers keep coming back to it.
- Owners rate the Jeep Wrangler between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For long-term ownership, you should expect a vehicle whose appeal is tied closely to how you plan to use it, especially if you want a trail-focused SUV with a strong enthusiast following.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Sport S trim and above includes adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, while Rubicon X adds blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
- Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged four-cylinder engine has an EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in both the two- and four-door body styles.
Which Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers these trims:
- Sport: The entry trim keeps the Wrangler’s rugged basics and is the starting point if you want the model’s core off-road character.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim, adding adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
- Willys: A step up for buyers who want a more distinctive appearance and trail-ready attitude.
- Rubicon: The off-road-focused choice for shoppers who want the Wrangler’s capability pushed further.
- Rubicon X: The most fully equipped trim, adding blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and high-beam assist.
- Willys ’41: A special-edition model with unique styling details and a more personalized look.
- Sahara: A four-door-only trim for buyers who want a more upscale take on the Wrangler formula.
- Willys 392: A four-door-only special edition with V8 power.
- Moab 392: A four-door-only special edition that builds on the V8-powered formula.
What Jeep Wrangler do most buyers choose?
The Jeep Wrangler years with the most listings are 2021, 2022, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 8,884 | 33.4% |
| 2022 | 8,632 | 34.1% |
| 2019 | 7,974 | 31.7% |
| 2020 | 7,879 | 32.4% |
| 2018 | 7,719 | 31.6% |
| 2023 | 7,659 | 34.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, price, and condition. They also sit in the part of the lineup where the Wrangler’s modern features and familiar character overlap well for used shoppers.
What is the Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,083 | −16.89% |
| 2020 | $25,690 | −12.65% |
| 2024 | $38,169 | −12.05% |
| 2021 | $28,242 | −11.49% |
| 2019 | $24,150 | −11.07% |
| 2022 | $30,541 | −10.23% |
| 2018 | $21,512 | −10.03% |
| 2016 | $17,659 | −8.39% |
| 2017 | $19,357 | −8.22% |
| 2015 | $16,555 | −7.64% |
| 2014 | $15,610 | −7.06% |
| 2023 | $35,298 | −4.86% |
The table shows broad price declines across the lineup, which is good news if you’re shopping used. Most model years are down by double digits, and even the smaller drops still point to softer pricing than a year ago. That means you have room to shop across multiple years and trims without chasing rising prices.
The 2023, 2014, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

- Tech: A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard, backed by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Customers say
Overall, Jeep Wrangler owners across all model years express strong enthusiasm for their vehicles, particularly praising their off-road capabilities, rugged design, and fun driving experiences. Many appreciate the iconic styling and the ability to customize their Wranglers. However, common criticisms include poor fuel economy, limited cargo space, and occasional discomfort during longer drives. While the Wranglers are loved for their adventurous spirit, some owners wish for more modern features and improved reliability in certain models.

As a previous owner of a CJ7, and later a 1999 Wrangler, the 2025 Wrangler is very different. The clutch is feather light compared to any standard transmission I’ve ever driven. I love the ability to integrate my phone etc.. the Alpine stereo sounds good. The removable T top model sounds tight going down the road… Very little noise. The steering is easy yet responsive. The seats are comfortable and fit well even though I’m only 5’2” and my husband 6’1”. I wish the clutch were a bit more firm. But I’m sure I will get used to it and even prefer it overtime.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler stands out as one of the last body-on-frame SUVs for buyers who care more about off-road ability than creature comforts. Its appeal is rooted in a long-running Jeep formula, and it remains a popular choice for adventure-minded drivers. Every Wrangler comes with solid front and rear axles and a five-link suspension system, which helps explain why it continues to be such a capable trail vehicle.
That capability comes with tradeoffs. The Wrangler’s strengths are its outstanding off-road performance and multiple powertrain options, but it is not as convincing when the pavement starts to matter. The source notes limited storage space and unimpressive on-road performance, and owner feedback echoes concerns about high-speed handling and pricing. For shoppers who want a rugged SUV with serious off-road credentials, those compromises may be acceptable, but they are part of the Wrangler experience.
