What should I look for when buying a used Hyundai Sonata?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: the Sonata Hybrid sedan offers a similarly adequate 192-hp drivetrain, which benefits from immediate electric motor torque when accelerating from a standstill and can return an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving.

Which Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata offers these trims:

• SE: The entry trim gives you the core Sonata formula with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the model’s broad, well-equipped character.
• SEL: This trim adds the 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel starting here, making it a strong value choice for shoppers who want a more modern display setup.
• SEL Convenience: This is the best-value trim if you want the biggest tech upgrade, adding navigation, dynamic voice recognition, wireless smartphone charging, and digital key technology.
• N Line: This trim brings the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, dual-clutch automatic transmission, 19-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, rack-mounted steering, quad-outlet exhaust, Hyundai Pay tech, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.
• Hybrid SEL: This hybrid trim gives you the Sonata Hybrid’s efficiency-focused setup with the same upscale display and connectivity foundation.
• Hybrid Limited: This trim adds the surround-view camera system with Blind Spot View Monitor, added parking assistance features, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

What Hyundai Sonata do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Sonata years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine newer features, broad availability, and strong deal percentages. That gives you more choices in both trim and price while still keeping you close to the latest Sonata updates.

What is the Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

Most Sonata model years are down year over year, which creates better buying opportunities for used shoppers. The steepest drops are concentrated in several newer and mid-cycle years, while a few older years are falling more slowly. That pattern suggests you can find meaningful value across much of the lineup if you shop carefully.

The 2023, 2014, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Hyundai Sonata now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.81% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.4%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 41% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 40.8%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $21,975. The Hyundai Sonata offers a roomy cabin and trunk, which makes it easy to live with every day.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The Sonata’s base 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is unremarkable, although it does offer all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option for SEL models – all other Sonata and Sonata Hybrids have front-wheel drive (FWD).
• Tech: All models have a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and, starting with the Sonata SEL Convenience, there's also a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel.
• Safety: Every 2025 Sonata has standard SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
