Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense driver-assistance suite
- Infotainment: 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is superb with nearly 60 mpg on the highway on the Blue trim (EPA-rated at 51 mpg city, 58 mpg highway, and 54 mpg combined).
Which Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra offers these trims:
- SE: The entry trim brings the 2.0-liter inline-four with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, plus the 8-inch touchscreen and standard safety tech. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
- SEL: This trim adds the 10.25-inch touchscreen and more equipment, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a stronger feature set without moving too far up the price ladder.
- SEL Sport Premium: This trim builds on the SEL with additional equipment and a more upscale feel.
- Limited: This trim adds the larger touchscreen, blind-spot cameras, adaptive cruise control, rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- N Line: This trim adds the 1.6-liter turbo-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and a sportier chassis balance. It suits you if you want the most engaging everyday Elantra.
- Blue: This hybrid trim focuses on efficiency with the hybrid powertrain.
- N: This performance model adds the 276-hp turbocharged setup and track-capable hardware for buyers who want the most power and the sharpest driving character.
What Hyundai Elantra do most buyers choose?
The Hyundai Elantra years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 6,232 | 28.9% |
| 2025 | 5,348 | 29% |
| 2023 | 4,209 | 28.5% |
| 2026 | 3,366 | 29.1% |
| 2022 | 2,764 | 28.2% |
| 2019 | 2,068 | 23.1% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine newer features, broader availability, and strong value. When more listings are on the market, you also get more chances to compare trims, prices, and deal quality.
What is the Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | $11,704 | −6.3% |
| 2017 | $9,627 | −6.25% |
| 2018 | $10,769 | −6.19% |
| 2022 | $17,350 | −5.84% |
| 2016 | $8,350 | −5.13% |
| 2024 | $20,037 | −4.41% |
| 2015 | $7,912 | −4.17% |
| 2025 | $21,579 | −1.96% |
| 2014 | $7,730 | −1.83% |
| 2021 | $16,327 | −0.91% |
| 2023 | $19,546 | −0.64% |
Most of the model years in this table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want prices that have softened. The declines are generally steeper on older years, while the newest years are moving only slightly. That pattern suggests recent Elantras are still in demand, but there are still opportunities for buyers who want to avoid paying peak prices.
The 2021 and 2023 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2023, 2021, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

For the safest used buy, the 2017 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Hyundai Elantra now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.96% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.41%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 29% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 28.9%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,037. The Hyundai Elantra offers a roomy cabin, strong value, and a broad mix of features that make it easy to live with.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Instead of one powertrain, there are four engines and five transmissions, each of which share a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout and four cylinders.
- Tech: A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard on SEL-and-above trims, and a digital instrument panel is standard.
- Safety: The Limited adds rear emergency braking, 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Starting price: The 2024 Elantra starts at $21,625.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

Absolutely the best car I have ever owned! I bought it in 2015 as a certified pre-owned vehicle and never once did I have any mechanical issues other than just this year the pump for the windshield wiper fluid finally went out. However, my boyfriend and I were able to repair that on our own. I planned on keeping this car a good long time as I take care of my vehicles. Unfortunately I was rear-ended in October and the vehicle was totaled. Im putting my faith once again into Hyundai and buying a certified pre-owned 2020 Kona that I have researched heavily. I loved my Elantra and found it to be an excellent vehicle. I very much hope to have the same exact experience with my Kona as when I test drove a 2018 which had the same engine as the 2020 I found it extremely responsive, fantastic breaking, smooth ride even on bumpy bad roads, major safety features, very powerful, and felt just like my Elantra to drive.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out because it tries to cover a wide range of buyer needs in one compact sedan. It is described as roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced, and its lineup is broad enough to span basic transportation, a 50-mpg hybrid loaded with features, and a budget-friendly sports sedan. That versatility is a major part of its appeal, especially for shoppers who want a car that can be practical without feeling stripped down.
It also earns attention for its multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money. Those strengths make it easy to recommend to buyers who care about fuel economy, safety features, and getting a lot for the price. The main drawback noted is its potentially polarizing design, which means the Elantra’s styling may not be for everyone.
