What should I look for when buying a used Honda Insight?
Across all model years, at 71.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2022 | 77.2% |
| 2021 | 77.9% |
| 2020 | 74.6% |
| 2019 | 73.7% |
| 2014 | 52.9% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Honda Sensing with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist; EX and Touring add LaneWatch.
- Infotainment: 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
- Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, the LX and EX trims are more efficient, likely due to their lighter weight and smaller 16-inch wheels and tires. They’re supposed to return 52 mpg in combined driving. The Touring is less efficient, rated to achieve 48 mpg in combined driving.
Which Honda Insight trim should I buy?
The 2019 Honda Insight offers these trims:
- LX: The entry trim gives you the Insight's core hybrid efficiency and the standard safety suite, making it the value-focused choice if you want the model's main strengths at the lowest price.
- EX: This trim adds LaneWatch, so it's a smart middle-ground pick if you want more driver-assistance coverage and a well-rounded feature set.
- Touring: The top trim adds leather power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, fog lights, a 10-speaker premium sound system, navigation with real-time traffic, Honda Link subscription services, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
What Honda Insight do most buyers choose?
The Honda Insight years with the most listings are 2020, 2021, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 189 | 29.6% |
| 2021 | 163 | 27% |
| 2019 | 156 | 30.1% |
| 2022 | 114 | 28.1% |
| 2014 | 17 | 23.5% |
Higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they usually offer a better mix of availability, pricing, and choice. That makes it easier for you to compare trims, mileage, and condition before deciding.
What is the Honda Insight's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $20,554 | −3.71% |
| 2020 | $19,711 | +1.47% |
| 2019 | $17,470 | +4.43% |
The price movement is mixed, with one recent year easing and the others moving upward. That means some used Insight model years are still holding value well, while others have become a bit more approachable for shoppers.
The 2019, 2020, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Honda Insight now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Sweet-spot year: The 2020 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,711. The Honda Insight offers a comfortable cabin, strong fuel economy, and a smooth ride that make it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The new Insight has a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric drive motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
- Tech: The Insight’s 8-inch touchscreen display is easy to use, and the system provides Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voicemail playback, and text messaging support.
- Safety: Every Insight is equipped with a reversing camera, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist systems.
- Starting price: The base LX is priced at $22,830.
If you're buying used today, the 2020 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2023 inventory to mature.

I bought this car in 2010 after reasearching all other alternatives. Even now, given the fuel economy, price, exterior and interior looks of the vehicle it still blows everything else out of the water. There are small downsides like hard seats and less sound deadening materials; but, it's not a luxury car. It does what it's built for. Build quality is excellent and so is the integrity of all the parts it's made of. I have had no costs associated with the replacement of parts that are not related to maintenance. Maintenance intervals are huge and cost much less than typical cars. The look and feel of the car has put it over the top for me. Compared to the only other hybrid that gets this kind of fuel economy (Prius and Prius C) this car provides the perfect amount of space for my family (Prius C does not) and the interior beats the Prius any day. The layout of the car is more conventional and you are connected to the drive components for that real car feel.

Love the Insight. Watching mileage increase helps me adjust my foot on the gas. :)> Acceleration, braking and handling are very responsive. Time will tell if the mileage is as good as advertised. So far, it's great.

There is a lot of road noise on the freeway. It has an excellent turning radius. The gas mileage is amazing! The batteries that were originally put in go dead, but Honda replaces them under warranty. The interior is skimpy to save on the weight, but not having all the extra stuff is nice. The outside takes some getting used to with the wheel skirts, but I have come to like it. Overall it is a joy to drive and I look forward to getting every time.

Why it stands out
The redesigned 2019 Honda Insight stands out by moving away from the quirky hybrid formulas that defined earlier versions and adopting a traditional four-door sedan shape. It also offers plenty of interior and trunk space, which makes it easier to view as a practical everyday car rather than a niche hybrid experiment. Honda’s styling approach is another clear differentiator here: the car is described as more attractive than the Civic on which it is based.
That combination of practicality, efficiency-minded packaging, and cleaner design is what makes the 2019 Insight appealing to buyers who want a compact hybrid without giving up the feel of a conventional sedan. At the same time, the source frames it as a question rather than a verdict, which suggests the car’s appeal depends on whether shoppers value those strengths enough to choose it over other efficient small cars.
