The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban stands out for doing exactly what the name has long promised: carrying lots of people, lots of cargo, and lots of weight in one vehicle. By this generation, Chevrolet had already given the Suburban an independent rear suspension, which improved ride and handling while also lowering the rear floor to increase cargo space and third-row legroom. A longer wheelbase also helps make the third row easier to reach, and the result is a large SUV that feels engineered around space and usefulness rather than style alone.
For 2023, the Suburban also offered a broad mix of powertrain and technology choices. The Duramax 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel made 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while returning up to 23 mpg in combined driving, and the standard 5.3-liter V8 made 355 horsepower. When properly equipped, the Suburban could tow 8,300 pounds. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus access to a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, add everyday convenience, and 2023 also brought hands-free Super Cruise on some versions. The main tradeoffs remain the ones buyers expect from a full-size SUV: gas engines are thirsty, it can be hard to park in many places, and its size limits off-road maneuverability.
