• 840i xDrive: This adds all-wheel drive to the 840i formula for extra traction.
• M850i xDrive: This trim adds the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, all-wheel drive, and a more performance-focused character.

What BMW 8 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 8 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

Higher-volume years usually give you more choices across trims, body styles, and price points, which makes it easier to compare listings and find the right fit. They also tend to be the years shoppers cross-shop most often, so you can usually gauge value more quickly.

What is the BMW 8 Series's resale value?

Most model years are moving down in price, which creates more room for used buyers to find value. The sharpest drops are concentrated in the newer years, while the older years show smaller year-over-year changes. That pattern suggests you can often get into a well-equipped 8 Series for less than its original asking price.

The 2019, 2020, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the BMW 8 Series safe?

• 2021: 8/10
• 2020: 8/10

The 2023 model includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning, with available Driving Assistance Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package adding more driver-assistance features.

For the safest used buy, the 2020 and 2021 models both post the highest confirmed score of 8/10.
