About the Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 compact luxury SUV is hands down the German automaker’s best-selling vehicle. Audi sells more Q5 models than any other vehicle in its lineup. On sale since 2008, the Q5 offers a well-rounded package of comfort, performance, safety, and utility. The Q5 is equipped with standard all-wheel drive, offered in multiple powertrains, and available with a plethora of technology.

What are the advantages of the Auid Q5?

The Q5 features a timeless exterior design that is neither excessive nor plain. The interior is also well-pointed with luxury amenities for comfort and standard technology for convenience. The Q5 also earns high scores in crash safety tests.

What is the best Audi Q5 model year?

The 2017 Q5 is generally regarded as one of its best model years. At the tail-end of its first generation, Audi seemed to work out most of the kinks that plagued earlier years, as the 2017 model reports the fewest consumer complaints. The top-of-the-line Q5 Prestige Plus, in particular, also receives more standard equipment such as Audi Drive Select drive modes and adaptive cruise control.

What are the disadvantages of the Audi Q5?

Some disadvantages of the Q5, especially for early first-generation models, are excessive oil consumption and a non-intuitive multi-media interface (MMI). Although always considered to offer nimble and engaging handling, its acceleration is deemed lackluster.

Comparison: Is the Audi Q5 better than the BMW X5?

Despite their numerals, the Audi Q5 and BMW X5 do not compete in the same segment. The X5 is larger and part of the midsize luxury SUV class. The smaller Q5 more directly competes with the BMW X3 and would offer a more apples-to-apples comparison.

Is the Audi Q5 a reliable car?

The Q5 has a predicted reliability rating just short of “average.” The vehicle is considered below average with regard to long-term reliability (i.e., higher maintenance costs).

Is the Audi Q5 worth the cost?

The Audi Q5 is a top-selling vehicle for a reason, but it is not without faults. Its impressive list of creature comforts and technology cannot hide the Q5’s history of poor acceleration and hit-or-miss reliability. The key is selecting a model year with few reported issues, and the Q5 can prove to be a bargain luxury buy.
