New & Used 2026 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearDowners Grove, IL

Is the 2026 Toyota Highlander a good car?

The 2026 Toyota Highlander stands out as a comfortable, practical midsize SUV with a long reputation for reliability and everyday usefulness. Toyota has focused on making it more upscale and more comfortable on the road while keeping the formula centered on family-friendly versatility.

It also gives you both gas and hybrid powertrains, and front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive optional. You get up to 84.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down, which is one of the best figures in its class, and every Highlander comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, USB inputs, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and standard Toyota Safety Sense.

The tradeoff is that it still isn’t the most exciting SUV to drive. Its suspension is tuned for a smooth ride, and the steering is generally numb and uncommunicative, but that calm, comfortable personality is part of its appeal if you value refinement, safety, and long-term practicality over driving thrills. With 37.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a moderate amount of room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Toyota Highlander reliable?

The 2026 Toyota Highlander stands out as a comfortable, practical midsize SUV with a long reputation for reliability and everyday usefulness. Toyota has kept the formula centered on family-friendly versatility, and that focus on calm, straightforward ownership is a big part of the Highlander’s appeal.

It also brings standard Toyota Safety Sense, plus the kind of everyday equipment that supports low-stress use, including an 8-inch touchscreen, USB inputs, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. The hybrid version is a strong choice if you want better efficiency, with 35 mpg combined, while the gas model’s turbocharged four-cylinder delivers about 1 to 2 mpg more in every measure of fuel economy than the V6 it replaced.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is generally more about finding a well-kept example than worrying about the Highlander’s basic mission.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the vehicle’s condition matches the listing photos and description. Prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin, cargo area, tires, brakes, and any signs of uneven wear, since a practical family SUV can hide heavy use even when it looks clean on paper.
