New & Used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class for Sale near California

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class earns a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It’s a luxurious convertible that’s easy to live with, and it brings a broad mix of powertrain choices to a segment with limited choices. The SL also stands out for its stylish design and comfortable ride, while the current lineup adds the ultra-luxury Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series for buyers who want something even more exclusive.

The trade-offs are clear: the transmission can be irritating, and the lack of physical controls may frustrate some drivers. Even so, the SL’s combination of style, comfort, and breadth of powertrain choices makes it appealing if you want a premium open-top car that balances everyday usability with serious performance.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, which gives you a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is presented as a modern luxury convertible with a complex feature set, so you should expect the usual premium-car ownership demands that come with advanced hardware and electronics. Its performance lineup spans multiple powertrains, and the current-generation model is described as easy to live with, which points to a car that’s designed for everyday use as much as weekend driving.

The performance setup includes a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission across the lineup, and the Maybach model adds softer springs and special damper tuning for ride comfort while still maintaining strong body control. The infotainment system is also built around a responsive MBUX interface with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which supports a polished day-to-day experience.

Mercedes includes a first-class ownership perk with the SL’s maintenance coverage, which helps reduce early service costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-end convertible with this much technology and performance can be expensive to keep in top shape if prior maintenance was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 100% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the car’s equipment and condition match the listing, especially on a model with multiple powertrains and a lot of technology. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, and you’ll want to pay close attention to the transmission behavior, interior controls, and the condition of any optional luxury or tech features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The current generation is a convertible only, and the lineup includes SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and the Maybach SL 680. The base SL 43 is the least expensive way in, but the higher trims add more power and, in the Maybach’s case, a stronger emphasis on ride comfort and luxury details.
• Powertrain: The SL 43 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 416 horsepower, while the SL 55 and SL 63 use a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. The SL 63 S E Performance pairs that V8 with a plug-in hybrid system for 805 horsepower, and the Maybach SL 680 uses the 577-hp V8 setup with AWD.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind spot monitors, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Pre-Safe, and a surround-view camera. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and some steering-assist features and traffic-sign recognition are also available.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and natural-language voice recognition. Optional upgrades include a head-up display, a dashcam, augmented reality navigation, and a higher-end sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The SL 43 is rated at 22 mpg combined, with 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Mercedes estimates 29 mpg combined for the SL 63 S E Performance, with 33 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is offered in 5 trim levels: SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series.

Here's the short version:

• SL 43: This is the entry point, and it gives you the SL experience with the 416-hp turbo-four and the lowest starting price in the lineup. It’s the trim to consider if you want the style and daily usability of the SL without jumping into V8 pricing.
• SL 55: This is the first V8 model and adds AWD, making it the better choice if you want a stronger performance step up without going all the way to the most expensive trims.
• SL 63: This trim turns up the V8 output further and is the better pick if you want the most traditional high-performance SL feel before the hybrid model enters the picture.
• SL 63 S E Performance: This is the performance flagship, with 805 horsepower, a plug-in hybrid system, carbon-ceramic brakes, rear-axle steering, and an active anti-roll system. It’s the one to buy if outright speed matters most.
• Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: This is the luxury-focused choice, and it’s the best-value trim in the lineup if you want the most exclusive SL experience. It adds Maybach-specific comfort tuning, special visual treatment, and a more upscale presentation that makes the car feel closer to a bespoke grand tourer.

The safety package includes standard driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, lane-keep assist, and a surround-view camera, while adaptive cruise control remains optional.
