CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Summary
With 259 currently listed for sale and an average price of $134,237, 35.1% of 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
97.3% of 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out as a flagship luxury sedan that leans hard into technology, craftsmanship, and comfort. Mercedes gives it the second generation of its MBUX infotainment interface, and buyers can opt for up to five screens on board. It also offers a new 3D driver display system that uses eye tracking to create the illusion of depth, reinforcing the car’s role as a showcase for the brand’s latest ideas. Rear-axle steering helps improve turning radius with up to ten degrees of motion, and the car includes a new rear airbag system that places airbags in front of rear passengers for the first time.
Powertrain choices are equally ambitious. The S 500 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, while the S 580 pairs a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with mild hybrid drive. The plug-in hybrid S 580e adds a beefy electric motor and a 28.6-kWh battery pack, and it can be charged using a DC fast charger. For buyers who want even more performance, the lineup also includes the AMG S 63 plug-in hybrid, which combines a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with an electric motor and a 13.1-kWh battery pack. That breadth of hardware makes the 2026 S-Class appealing to shoppers who want a deeply luxurious sedan that still delivers serious speed and advanced electrification.
The tradeoff is cost. The S-Class is the most expensive vehicle in its class, with no model starting for less than $120,850 in 2026, and it remains costly to fuel, maintain, and insure. Even so, its appeal is straightforward: it offers opulent luxury, advanced safety systems, and the kind of technology that has long made the S-Class Mercedes-Benz’s standard-bearer.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a flagship luxury sedan that leans hard into technology, craftsmanship, and comfort. It also brings a second-generation MBUX infotainment interface, up to five screens on board, a new 3D driver display system, rear-axle steering, and a rear airbag system that places airbags in front of rear passengers for the first time.
That makes it a strong fit if you want a deeply luxurious sedan with advanced features and serious attention to rear-seat comfort. The tradeoff is cost: it is the most expensive vehicle in its class, and it remains costly to fuel, maintain, and insure.
With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful number of opportunities to shop selectively.
Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is built around comfort, performance, technology, and refinement, with a broad range of powertrain choices and a cabin focused on premium materials and advanced systems. It also keeps its flagship mission intact by emphasizing luxury and sophistication over simplicity.
That said, the car’s complexity and high-end hardware mean long-term ownership risk can be higher for used buyers who want predictable running costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with advanced electronics and multiple luxury systems. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and evidence of careful maintenance so you can avoid expensive surprises.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and comparison-shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 260 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 97.3% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
Consider the 2025 if:
- It keeps the flagship formula current with only small changes.
The bottom line: The 2026 is the better path if you want the latest technology-forward S-Class experience and a healthy share of deal-priced listings. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it preserves the core luxury mission while potentially offering a lower entry point.
