New & Used 2026 Lexus IS for Sale nearCedar Knolls, NJ

Is the 2026 Lexus IS a good car?

The 2026 Lexus IS earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.

Lexus refreshed the IS for 2026 with updated digital instrumentation, infotainment, driver-assistance tech, and revised exterior and interior design, and it also re-tuned the steering and suspension. That lines up with a car that feels more modern and more polished while still keeping the small sports-sedan character that defines the model. The expert verdict also calls it enjoyable to drive, quality-rich, and a good fit if you want a premium cabin and a fun commute.

The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy and limited cargo space. The lineup is also simplified to a V6-powered IS 350 with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, so you’re shopping a narrower range of choices than in prior years.

The market is still reasonably active, with 42.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS reliable?

The 2026 Lexus IS is described as having a long-standing reputation for reliability, and the expert verdict reinforces that it exudes quality and should appeal to buyers who want a small sports sedan with a strong durability reputation. The cost-effectiveness notes also say that, with proper maintenance, it will likely last a long time without requiring many repairs.

The performance write-up adds that the V6 is smooth and refined, and the car showed an uncanny amount of structural rigidity in testing for a vehicle architecture that’s now 13 years old. Lexus also includes two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits, though both happen during the first year of ownership.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is more about running costs than durability, especially if you drive a lot in the city.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Lexus IS?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with options or a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment and trim match what you expect from the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Three trim levels are available, all wearing F Sport nomenclature. The F Sport Design is the least expensive, while the F Sport sharpens the focus on performance and offers an optional Handling Package. A limited-production run of F Sport Special Appearance Package models is also available. The base-level gap to watch is that the F Sport Design is mechanically identical to the F Sport except for the latter’s firmer suspension, so the more expensive trim is the one that adds the sharper chassis feel.
• Powertrain: The IS 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 311 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel-drive models use an eight-speed automatic, while all-wheel-drive models use a six-speed automatic. The car is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, and Lexus recommends premium fuel.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard. Optional upgrades include a surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin gets two 12.3-inch displays, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Lexus Interface software. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system also supports connected services such as native navigation, remote engine starting, and an SOS emergency button depending on the plan.
• Fuel efficiency: The IS 350 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, and the test car returned 22.5 mpg on the Southern California fuel-economy route, 20.4 mpg on the mountainous evaluation loop, and 17.8 mpg in city driving only.

Which 2026 Lexus IS trim should I buy?

The 2026 Lexus IS is offered in 3 trim levels: F Sport Design, F Sport, F Sport Special Appearance Package.

Here's the short version:

• F Sport Design: This is the least expensive way into the lineup, and it gives you the IS 350’s V6 power and the F Sport look without the firmer suspension of the higher trim. It makes sense if you want the core car and care more about value than chassis tuning.
• F Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the firmer suspension and can be paired with the optional Handling Package, which brings a limited-slip rear differential, a performance-tuned adaptive suspension, and additional driving modes. If you want the most complete version of the IS 350’s sporty character, this is the one to target.
• F Sport Special Appearance Package: This limited-production version is for shoppers who want a more distinctive look rather than a different mechanical setup. It suits you best if style and exclusivity matter more than value.

Safety equipment is standard across the lineup, while the Technology Package adds useful extras such as lane-change assist and front cross-traffic alert.

Is the 2026 Lexus IS safe?

The 2026 Lexus IS has incomplete safety ratings, so you should treat it as a car with strong standard safety tech but unfinished crash-test coverage. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety had published only partial results, including a Marginal score in the moderate overlap front crash test, while headlight ratings ranged from Good to Acceptable depending on trim. The IIHS also gave Good ratings for front-crash prevention tech in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite is Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, pedestrian/cyclist/motorcyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, intersection/oncoming vehicle assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a safe-exit warning system are also standard.

There are also useful optional upgrades, including a surround-view camera system, parking assistance with automatic braking, rear cross-traffic automatic braking, and Traffic Jam Assist. The Technology Package adds lane-change assist and front cross-traffic alert.

Should I buy a 2026 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 42.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Lexus refreshed the IS for 2026 with updated digital instrumentation, infotainment, driver-assistance tech, and revised steering and suspension, making this year feel more modern and polished.

The bottom line:

If you want the most updated version of the IS with the latest cabin tech and a sharpened driving feel, the 2026 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll be giving up some of the refresh that helps this version feel more current.
