Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It fits well if you want a premium three-row SUV that feels polished, comfortable, and easy to live with. The MDX’s strengths are its stylish design, quiet cabin, and user-friendly tech, and it is positioned as a good-value choice among midsize three-row luxury rivals.

The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, fuel economy is poor, and there is no hybrid option. Those compromises matter most if you regularly use all three rows or prioritize efficiency.

With 37.4% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as a reliable vehicle intended for on-road use, with a solid, structurally robust feel and a quiet, comfortable demeanor. Its ride quality and everyday drivability support that impression, and the updated cabin tech is presented as a meaningful improvement over the old setup.

The performance notes also point to a durable, well-sorted package: the V6 is responsive, the transmission behaves well, and the brakes are easy to modulate. Acura’s tech and driver-assistance systems are described as more refined and accurate than in past years.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the MDX’s efficiency and third-row packaging may not match your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with the available driver-assistance and camera equipment. Focus on cabin condition, tech functionality, and whether the vehicle’s trim and drivetrain match how you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while AWD is standard on A-Spec and higher variants. The A-Spec and A-Spec Advance add blacked-out exterior treatment and bolder interior materials, while the Type S Advance brings the more powerful turbocharged engine and other performance upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and increases towing capacity to 5,000 pounds, compared with 3,500 pounds for FWD models. The Type S uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp and 354 lb-ft.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. Parking sensors with low-speed braking are standard on most models, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Amazon Alexa Built-in, Google Built-in, and a three-year complimentary subscription to Google services are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA estimate is 21 mpg combined, and real-world testing returned 17.9 mpg on one evaluation loop and 19.2 mpg over 160 miles.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core MDX experience with front-wheel drive standard and the main AcuraWatch safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra luxury and convenience upgrades.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the MDX’s easy-to-use character intact. It also can be equipped with AWD, which broadens its appeal if you want extra traction without moving up to the sportier trims.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the MDX to look and feel more distinctive, with blacked-out exterior trim and bolder interior treatments. It also comes standard with AWD.
• Advance: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more upscale, comfort-focused MDX without the flashier styling changes. It builds on the core luxury mission and is a good fit if refinement matters more than appearance.
• A-Spec Advance: This is the most fully featured non-Type S choice, combining the A-Spec styling with the Advance equipment set. It suits you if you want the richest mix of style, comfort, and convenience.
• Type S Advance: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup. It swaps in the twin-turbo V6 and other upgrades, making it the choice for buyers who care most about power and driving character.

AcuraWatch is standard, and parking sensors with low-speed braking are standard on most models, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,123 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.9% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA for FWD models. The IIHS has not published ratings for the 2026 MDX, but the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch bundles the MDX’s driver aids, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.

Most MDX models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system. One caveat is that the lane-departure warning can trigger steering-wheel wobble, and lane-centering assist can cycle on and off in some situations.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It keeps the refreshed MDX formula focused on comfort, style, and easy-to-use tech.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The refreshed model year emphasizes simplicity, sophistication, and refinement.

The bottom line: The 2026 MDX is the better pick if you want the latest version of Acura’s polished three-row luxury SUV and you value its comfort, tech, and overall balance. If you’re shopping mainly on price, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same appeal with a similar refreshed character.
