Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It fits you well if you want a three-row luxury SUV that emphasizes stylish design, a comfortable ride, and easy-to-use technology. The MDX is aimed more at on-road driving than off-road use, and the expert review says it delivers good utility, a quiet cabin, and a polished family-hauler feel.

The main trade-offs are the cramped third row and poor fuel economy, plus there’s no hybrid option. If those drawbacks matter less than comfort, refinement, and straightforward tech, the MDX makes a strong case for itself. Good and great deals account for 38.7% of listings, which gives you a decent chance to find a competitive offer.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as reliable in expert testing, and the review emphasizes that it feels solid and structurally robust in daily driving. It also comes across as a well-sorted vehicle with a comfortable ride, good highway stability, and a cabin that feels quiet and quality-focused.

The performance notes point to a responsive 3.5-liter V6, a well-behaved 10-speed automatic, and suspension tuning that filters minor road vibration and impacts effectively. The expert review also says the MDX is a pleasant daily driver and that the transmission behaves well, which supports the impression of a vehicle that should be easy to live with over time.

If you’re shopping used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that the MDX’s efficiency shortfall and lack of a hybrid option may keep operating costs higher than you’d like.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, technology operation, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while AWD is available for an extra $2,200. The A-Spec and A-Spec Advance add blacked-out wheels and exterior trim, subtle styling changes, and bolder interior treatments, while the Type S Advance brings a more powerful turbocharged engine and other upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and increases towing capacity to 5,000 pounds, compared with 3,500 pounds for FWD models.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. Most models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 10.5-inch head-up display available. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Google Built-in, and Amazon Alexa Built-in are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the official EPA estimate is 21 mpg combined, and it also notes observed fuel economy of 17.9 mpg on one evaluation loop and 19.2 mpg over 160 miles.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the MDX’s core luxury-SUV formula without the extra styling or equipment upgrades found higher up. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting point and plan to add AWD only if needed.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds equipment while staying closer to the core MDX experience. It also keeps the standard FWD setup, with AWD available if you want it.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the MDX to look more distinctive, with blacked-out exterior trim and a sportier cabin presentation. It keeps the same mechanical setup as other non-Type S models.
• Advance: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want a more upscale feel and more available comfort-oriented equipment. It stays focused on refinement rather than visual drama.
• A-Spec Advance: This is the most compelling choice if you want the strongest mix of style and equipment. It combines the A-Spec appearance treatment with the Advance trim’s upscale content, making it the best-value pick for shoppers who want a well-equipped MDX.
• Type S Advance: Pick this only if you want the performance-oriented version. It uses a more powerful turbocharged engine and other upgrades, so it’s the trim for buyers who care most about stronger performance.

Most MDX models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate market for buyers, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,118 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.3% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA for FWD models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not published ratings for the 2026 MDX, but the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is the MDX’s driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.

Most MDX models add parking sensors with low-speed braking, while more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system. The expert review notes that lane-departure warnings can trigger steering-wheel wobble, and lane-centering assist can cycle on and off on winding roads, though the system is generally refined and transparent in use.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 MDX carries over with only minor updates after a 2025 refresh, so you’re getting the latest version of the current formula.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The 2025 MDX is a refreshed three-row luxury SUV with simple controls, intuitive technology, and strong overall appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version of the current MDX formula, the 2026 is the straightforward choice. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a close look because it delivers much of the same appeal and may offer a better value on the used market.
