Is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 6/10 expert rating.

The model scores 6/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

It brings a redesigned exterior and interior, a comfortable ride, and a quiet cabin, while also correcting the last generation’s user interface issues. At the same time, it does not separate itself much from the crowd in a highly competitive compact SUV field.

One trade-off is that it offers not much cargo space. Another is that, while it is well-rounded, it does not deliver a standout advantage over the class leaders.

There are 33.8% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is presented as a comprehensive improvement over its predecessor, with a smoother and more linear drivetrain and a cabin that stays quiet even at highway speeds.

Its performance tuning favors comfort over sportiness, and the ride is described as composed and confidence-inspiring. The expert assessment also notes that the drivetrain delivers power more smoothly than before, with fewer surges or slow reactions.

For used buyers, that points to a vehicle that should feel easy to live with, but long-term ownership risk still depends on how well the previous owner maintained it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on cabin condition, cargo-area wear, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model comes well equipped, while higher trims add features like a head-up display, surround-view camera system, traffic sign reader, and semi-automated parking system. The top trim also adds illuminated exterior elements and a premium audio option.
• Powertrain: The Tiguan uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on all models and standard on the top trim.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, safe passenger exit warnings, parking proximity sensors, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, Emergency Assist, and post-collision braking. Higher trims add a head-up display, surround-view camera system, traffic sign reader, and semi-automated parking system.
• Infotainment: All models get a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument panel, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger. A 15-inch display is available and standard on the top trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The base S trim is estimated at up to 26 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. With 4Motion AWD, the estimate drops to 22/30 mpg city/highway and 25 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE R-Line, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the Tiguan’s core strengths without paying for extras. It comes well equipped, and the standard 12.9-inch touchscreen, digital instrument panel, and wireless smartphone integration make it easy to live with.
• SE R-Line: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of features and price. It adds a head-up display and keeps the Tiguan’s comfort-focused character intact, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• SEL R-Line: This is the top trim if you want the most equipment, including the 15-inch display, surround-view camera system, traffic sign reader, semi-automated parking system, and standard 4Motion AWD.

The safety package starts strong on every trim, and the upper trims add useful driver-assistance and convenience upgrades rather than changing the Tiguan’s basic personality.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,678 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,848, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $29,848 sits slightly below last year's $33,946.

That price movement suggests the Tiguan has softened in the used market, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. If you sell later, you may face more competition from similarly priced listings unless demand tightens.

For a future seller, the upside is that the Tiguan’s broad appeal and strong equipment list should keep it relevant. The downside is that its value may remain pressured if newer alternatives continue to offer more space or stronger efficiency.

Is the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan does not yet have crash test results from NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, safe passenger exit warnings, parking proximity sensors, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, Emergency Assist, and post-collision braking.

Higher trims add a head-up display, while the top trim adds a surround-view camera system, a traffic sign reader, and a semi-automated parking system. In expert testing, the safety and driver-assist features worked as intended, with no false alarms or over-sensitivity issues.

Should I buy a 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.07% compared with last year.
• It fixes the previous generation’s interface issues while adding a more modern design.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $24,208, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $29,848 average.
• It makes more desirable safety tech standard and offers stronger value.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds a more powerful top trim with a luxury-leaning performance boost.

The bottom line: The 2025 Tiguan is the right pick if you want the redesigned model with modern tech and a comfortable, quiet driving experience. If price matters most, the 2024 is the smarter value choice; if you want more performance and are willing to spend more, the 2026 is the upgrade path.
