How much does the 2025 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have softened 7.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,423 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius a good car?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns an expert rating of 6.67/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You get a stylish hybrid with easy-to-use technology and strong safety credentials, and Toyota’s new Nightshade Edition adds a more distinctive look for this model year. At the same time, the Prius is still defined by efficiency-first priorities, so you should expect compromises in everyday usability.

Trade-offs: real-world fuel economy fell short of the EPA estimate in testing, and the cabin is cramped with limited cargo space.

For shoppers who want a fuel-efficient hybrid with a distinctive design and strong safety, it fits the brief well; if you need more room or stronger real-world mpg, you may want to look elsewhere.

Good and great deals account for 41.1% of listings, so there’s meaningful room to shop around.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius reliable?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is presented as a long-running hybrid benchmark with a reputation built around efficiency and safety, and Toyota’s TNGA platform is described as helping modern Toyotas feel more composed and enjoyable to drive.

The hybrid powertrain is described as sprightly, with enough punch to merge confidently and handle highway speeds without strain. Toyota also equips every Prius with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which adds a broad set of driver-assistance features and helps reinforce the car’s everyday dependability.

On the ownership side, the Prius is positioned as a practical hybrid choice, but the testing notes also show that real-world efficiency can vary more than you might expect. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the car’s condition and usage history match your efficiency expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping for a car that may have seen heavy commuting use. Focus on cabin condition, cargo-area wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited. The base LE gets the standard 8-inch touchscreen, while the larger 12.3-inch screen is reserved for the Limited and optional on XLE and Nightshade Edition.
• Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an 83-kilowatt electric motor for 194 horsepower. AWD adds a second 30-kW rear electric motor and raises output to 196 hp.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard.
• Infotainment: Every Prius gets Toyota Audio Multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard screen is 8 inches on LE, XLE, and Nightshade Edition, while the Limited gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 39.2 mpg, while the EPA estimate was 52 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2025 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Prius basics with the standard infotainment setup and core safety tech. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim if you want more comfort and flexibility, since it can be equipped with the larger touchscreen while staying below the Limited.
• Nightshade Edition: This trim is for you if you want the blacked-out styling treatment, black 19-inch wheels, and the exclusive Karashi paint color.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped choice, with the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen standard and the most upscale feature set in the lineup.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included as well.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a buyer-friendly market if you’re shopping carefully.

• Deal availability: 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,423 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,869, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $29,407 sits slightly below last year's $31,780.

That price movement suggests the Prius has softened enough to help you buy more selectively today. If you’re a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and trim, since the market is already pricing in some depreciation.

Because the Prius remains a recognizable hybrid benchmark, well-kept examples should still hold appeal. But if you buy at the wrong price now, you may have less cushion later when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns a coveted Top Safety Pick+ nod from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in all crashworthiness assessments from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, along with a four-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard, and Proactive Driving Assist is part of the package as well.

The main caveat is that lane-centering can feel a bit argumentative on curving roads and can get momentarily confused near freeway ramps. Even so, the Prius remains a strong safety choice overall.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.
• Toyota adds a new Nightshade trim level with a blacked-out look for this model year.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,641, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,407 average.
• It blends style, practicality, and affordability for everyday use.

The bottom line: If you want the newer look and a slightly lower average price, the 2025 is the better default choice. If you’re shopping strictly on value and find a strong 2024 example, that year still makes sense for price-sensitive buyers who want the Prius formula without paying more for the latest model year.
