How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 387 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns a 7.8/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

You get an affordable two-door sports coupe that is described as comfortable on a twisty mountain road and useful for weekend errands, so it fits both fun-first driving and everyday use. The car’s stylish design, great handling, and manual transmission option are the core reasons it stands out.

The trade-offs are the cramped back seat and outdated technology, and the ride can feel stiff on rougher city roads while the steering may feel twitchy in daily commuting.

With 28.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop carefully rather than rush.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is positioned as a straightforward sports coupe with a 2.4-liter boxer-four, rear-wheel drive, and a manual or automatic transmission, so its mechanical setup is simple by modern performance-car standards. The expert review also describes it as a car that rewards drivers with exceptional handling and adequate power, which points to a focused design rather than a complicated one.

Its performance notes emphasize accessible power, a limited-slip differential, and a chassis that handles twisty roads with confidence. Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s sporty setup and firm tuning may make neglected examples more likely to show wear if they were driven hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have been driven more aggressively than the average used car. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension, brakes, tires, and signs of track use or curb damage. Pay close attention to interior condition too, since the cabin is small and the rear seats are already limited.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone special edition get Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base model misses that useful visibility aid.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automatic shifts quickly, but the manual is the more engaging choice.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the base trim.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an 8-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The system is basic, and the native interface can feel slow to respond.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, and Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the GR86 formula, but you give up blind-spot monitoring and the upgraded seat materials found higher up.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring and the nicer Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats, making it the smarter everyday pick.
• Hakone Edition: This is the special-edition choice if you want the most distinctive look and the added exclusivity of the limited-production model.

Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so those trims are the safer bet if visibility matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 387 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,011, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,755 sits slightly below last year's $33,557.

That softer pricing suggests the GR86 is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the car has been kept stock and well maintained.

Because the market has eased, a clean example bought at the right price may help you limit depreciation pain. A well-kept trim with desirable equipment should be easier to move than a rougher, heavily used example.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The GR86 earns Good ratings from IIHS in crashworthiness and crash avoidance and mitigation, and Acceptable for child seat anchors.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base trim misses that feature.

The safety setup is solid for a sports coupe, but the system is not as comprehensive as what you’d find in more family-focused vehicles. The adaptive cruise control also lacks stop-and-go functionality, so you need to stay attentive in traffic.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.39% compared with last year.
• It adds performance upgrades and the limited-production Hakone Edition.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens driver engagement with even more focus on handling and track-friendly tire choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, fun, and available inventory, the 2025 is the stronger buy right now. If your priority is maximum driving engagement and you’re willing to pay for the newer model year, the 2026 is worth a look. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on clean 2025 listings near the low end of the range.
