Is the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander a good car?

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander earns an expert rating of 6.67/10.

The model scores 7/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

For 2025, Mitsubishi’s refresh adds new tech, a new sound system, and suspension tuning that improves comfort and reduces body roll. That lines up with the Outlander’s appeal if you value a quiet cabin and a more comfortable ride, but the trade-offs still matter: the design can be polarizing and performance remains sluggish.

Cons: Potentially polarizing design, cramped third row, and sluggish performance.

With 42.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander reliable?

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander is positioned as a mainstream family crossover with standard warranty coverage that helps reduce early ownership risk. Mitsubishi also includes 2 years or 30,000 miles of limited maintenance for free, which is a useful ownership perk for the first stretch of driving.

The powertrain is unchanged for 2025, and the expert evaluation notes that the Outlander’s performance remains a weak point even after the refresh. That means your long-term ownership risk is less about novelty and more about whether you’re comfortable living with modest acceleration and a CVT-focused driving experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing higher-mileage examples or trims with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment operation, and whether the vehicle’s comfort features and driver-assistance systems work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Outlander is available in ES, SE and SEL trims with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The top SEL trim adds quilted leather seats, more soft-touch surfaces, and physical HVAC controls, while the base trim is lighter on upscale touches.
• Powertrain: The Outlander uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The expert evaluation says it needs more power, and acceleration can feel strained, especially with the CVT.
• Safety package: The base level includes blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning and automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear emergency braking. You have to move up to the SE to get adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure prevention, and traffic sign recognition.
• Infotainment: Every Outlander gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper trims add a larger digital gauge cluster, and the top SEL can be equipped with a rear camera mirror and head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA gives the Outlander a fuel rating of 26 miles per gallon combined.

Which 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 3 trim levels: ES, SE and SEL.

Here's the short version:

• ES: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outlander experience with the standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the base safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• SE: This is the best-value trim because it adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure prevention, and traffic sign recognition. If you want the most useful driver-assistance upgrades without jumping to the top end, this is the one to target.
• SEL: This trim is the most upscale, with quilted leather seats, more soft-touch surfaces, and available upgrades like the premium Yamaha audio system, digital dash display, panoramic sunroof, rear camera mirror, and head-up display. It suits you best if comfort and features matter more than value.

The safety package is not fully standard across the lineup, so if driver assistance matters to you, the SE is the trim to prioritize.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The market leans in your favor right now, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings and waiting for the right price.

• Deal availability: 42.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,312 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,812, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?

The current average of $25,812 sits slightly below last year's $30,329.

That drop suggests the Outlander has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also points to softer retained value for future sellers. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry price, but you should expect resale to remain sensitive to mileage, condition, and trim choice. Higher trims may be harder to justify on the back end if the market continues to favor lower-priced examples.

Is the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander safe?

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander earns a four-star rating in rollover from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Mitsubishi doesn’t offer a full suite of advanced driver assistance features as standard. At the base level you get blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning and automatic braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear emergency braking. You have to move up to the SE to get adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure prevention, and traffic sign recognition.

The expert testing also notes that adaptive cruise control and lane centering can work together on the highway, though lane centering had trouble keeping the Outlander centered on sweeping turns. IIHS gives the 2025 Outlander a Good rating for its headlights, but no broader crash-test result is cited here.

Should I buy a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 42.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.89% compared with last year.
• The 2025 refresh brings new tech, a better sound system, and improved suspension tuning.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed cabin, upgraded audio, and a more comfortable ride, the 2025 is the better pick. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2025’s softer pricing and updated equipment make it the more compelling choice for most used shoppers.
