Is the 2024 Volvo XC40 a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Volvo XC40 earns a 4/5 user rating, which fits its appeal as a compact SUV that blends premium feel with everyday usefulness. It stands out for its distinctive Scandinavian design, high-end minimalist cabin, quality materials, leather upholstery, and thoughtful packaging that makes it feel more expensive than its price suggests. It also offers impressive rear seat room for its footprint and a large cargo area with a useful folding floor divider, so it works well if you want a small luxury SUV that still feels practical. The tradeoffs are worth keeping in mind, especially poor rear visibility and touch-based interior controls that can be fiddly. With 36.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent number of market opportunities to target.

Is the 2024 Volvo XC40 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 XC40’s appeal comes from its standard safety equipment, premium cabin execution, and everyday usability, all of which support confidence in regular ownership. At the same time, the model’s noted reliability concerns mean you should be selective about condition and maintenance history when shopping used. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a neglected example that has not been cared for consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volvo XC40?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report to confirm the listing’s background and look for any prior damage or title issues. Put inspection priority on the interior controls, visibility-related concerns, and overall wear, since those are the kinds of details that can affect day-to-day satisfaction. Focus on condition and maintenance records, because a well-kept XC40 is more likely to deliver the premium experience you expect.

What is the 2024 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $31,159 sits slightly above last year's $31,105.

That small increase suggests the XC40 has held its value fairly well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. Stable pricing also points to steady demand rather than a market that is weakening. If you buy carefully and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to preserving value over time.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2024 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,553, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $31,159 average.
• It adds updated mild-hybrid powertrains and revised styling.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year market balance and a broad pool of clean listings, the 2024 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2023 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in strong condition with the features you want.
