How much does the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Is the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The 2024 model is positioned as a more competitive and more enjoyable electric SUV than before, with a more powerful rear-drive motor, improved range, and a next-generation infotainment system. It also brings comfort and convenience upgrades that help it feel better sorted overall.

The main trade-offs are the base model’s unimpressive electric range and the touch-sensing controls, which can frustrate some drivers. The seat-sensor vehicle on/off behavior can also add a little hassle in daily use.

With 42.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding strong value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is described as a better-sorted EV than before, with improved comfort, stronger performance, and more range. Its updated powertrain and charging setup also make it feel more competitive in everyday use.

The performance update is especially important: the new rear electric motor gives the Pro models more power and quicker acceleration, while the battery and charging setup support practical daily ownership. Volkswagen also includes two years or 20,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging history are healthy, since EV ownership depends heavily on how the pack has been treated.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings. Focus on overall condition, charging behavior, and whether the cabin tech and controls work the way you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes base, S, and S Plus trims. The base model is the most stripped-down choice, while the S and S Plus add more comfort and convenience equipment. The S Plus also gets the premium sound system option and a 21-inch wheel design.
• Powertrain: The Pro models use a single rear motor with 282 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque, while AWD Pro models add a front motor for 335 horsepower and quicker acceleration. The smaller-battery models use the previous motor with 201 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite is standard, and it includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. The ID.4 also has post-collision braking, and the parking assist system includes Memory Parking.
• Infotainment: Pro models get a 12.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, an improved interface, and battery preconditioning for route-based charging stops. The system also includes Plus Nav and Plus Speech access.
• Range & charging: The Pro RWD model is rated at 291 miles of range, the Pro AWD at 263 miles, and the standard battery model at 206 miles. The usable battery sizes are 82 kWh and 62 kWh, and DC fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, ask how often the car has relied on DC fast charging versus home charging, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains. A car that has mostly been charged at home and shows consistent range behavior is usually the safer bet.

Which 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, S, and S Plus.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest price, but it’s also the most basic version of the ID.4. It makes the most sense if you care most about getting into the model at the lowest cost and can live without the richer tech and comfort upgrades found higher up.
• S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished mix of equipment without pushing all the way to the top of the range. If you want a more complete daily driver without paying for the most expensive version, this is the trim to focus on.
• S Plus: Choose this if you want the most upscale ID.4 experience, including the premium sound system option and the 21-inch wheel design. It’s the right pick if you value the extra comfort and convenience touches more than keeping the purchase price down.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive safety suite is standard across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volkswagen ID.4?

• Deal availability: 42.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,723 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,132, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $23,722 sits slightly below last year's $24,693.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can work against short-term resale if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it can also help you buy at a more reasonable entry point today.

If the ID.4 continues to hold its improved range, comfort, and tech appeal, that should help support demand among used EV shoppers. Strong value positioning can also make it easier to move later if you keep the car in good condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 earns favorable ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has incomplete evaluations, though the electric SUV performs well in the rated assessments.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite is standard, and it includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist helps manage following distance and lane centering, while Emergency Assist can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.

The ID.4 also includes post-collision braking, which helps reduce the risk of secondary impacts after an accident. A parking assist system with Memory Parking is available as well.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 42.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The updated model brings a more powerful rear-drive motor, improved range, and a better infotainment system.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $22,892, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $23,722 average.
• It emphasizes affordability while still offering a comfortable, easy-to-live-with electric SUV experience.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded ID.4, the 2024 is the stronger choice thanks to its improved power, range, and tech. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core ID.4 strengths.
