Used 2024 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSan Francisco, CA

How much does the 2024 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 5.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,593 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of choices.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Subaru Outback earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

That lines up with its practical appeal: you get a raised wagon shape, excellent visibility, a spacious interior, and strong safety ratings. It is especially well suited to you if you want everyday usefulness and comfort without moving to a larger SUV.

The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine and a dated infotainment system. Even so, the lineup’s broad trim spread gives you room to choose a version that better matches your priorities.

37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward, familiar formula: standard all-wheel drive, a proven boxer engine layout, and a comfort-focused ride. The expert evaluation also points to strong safety and solid everyday usability, both of which tend to matter in long-term ownership.

Its base engine is described as underwhelming, but the turbocharged setup is a better fit if you want more confident performance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a lower-spec version that feels less satisfying in daily driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing trims with different equipment levels. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are standard on the trim you are considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims come with cloth seats, while the Limited adds standard leather seating surfaces and the Onyx Edition and Wilderness use StarTex synthetic leather. The Touring trim adds the most upscale interior touches, including Nappa leather upholstery, and the lineup also varies in exterior trim, wheel design, and chrome content.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.5-liter flat-four with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, while XT models and the Wilderness use a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The turbo setup also raises towing capacity from 2,700 to 3,500 lbs.
• Safety package: The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard on the Onyx Edition, and reverse automatic braking starts with the Onyx trim level.
• Infotainment: The base trim keeps the dual-7-inch-screen setup, while other trims get the larger 11.6-inch portrait-oriented screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto start with Premium, and Wi-Fi capability comes on all but the base trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is EPA-rated at 26 mpg city, 32 highway, and 28 combined. The turbo engine is estimated at 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined, while the Wilderness is rated at 21 city, 26 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2024 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2024 Subaru Outback is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the least expensive way into the Outback, but it is also the most stripped-down. You get the cloth-seat setup, the dual-7-inch-screen infotainment system, USB-A only, and the four-speaker audio system, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer tech and comfort upgrades.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB-C connectivity, Wi-Fi capability, and a six-speaker audio system. If you want a more modern daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• Onyx Edition: This is the least-expensive path to the turbocharged engine, and it also adds StarTex synthetic leather plus more safety equipment, including blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want stronger performance and a better equipment mix, this is the trim to focus on.
• Wilderness: This is the choice for you if you want the most off-road-oriented Outback. It gets the turbo engine, 9.2 inches of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and dual-function X-Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.
• Limited: This trim adds standard leather seating surfaces and a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top of the range. It is a good fit if you want comfort upgrades but do not need the Touring’s extra tech.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious version, with Nappa leather, the 11.6-inch screen, a CD player, a wide-angle camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a driver-attention monitor. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience features.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but reverse automatic braking starts with the Onyx trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,593 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,440, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $28,543 sits slightly below last year's $30,319.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on trim choice, condition, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Higher-spec versions with stronger equipment and better perceived value should be easier to position later. If you buy carefully now, you can reduce the chance of taking an outsized hit when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2024 Subaru Outback earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it five stars overall.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Reverse automatic braking is standard starting with the Onyx trim level, and blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert becomes standard on the Onyx Edition.

Touring adds a wide-angle camera, a digital rearview mirror, and a driver-attention monitor. The main caveat is that the Outback lost the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation it had in the prior model year.

Should I buy a 2024 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the raised wagon shape, strong safety ratings, and broad trim range.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,780, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $28,543 average.
• It adds fresh styling and newer infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,713, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $28,543 average.
• It remains a rugged wagon with standard all-wheel drive and strong practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and current-model-year features, the 2024 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2025 is the next step up.
