CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Summary
With 235 currently listed for sale near Chicago, IL and an average price of $125,274, 30.2% of 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 4.5 / 5 stars.
94.5% of 2024 S-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out as a showcase for the brand’s newest technology and luxury engineering. Mercedes gives it the second generation of its MBUX infotainment interface, and buyers can opt for up to five screens on board. It also offers a new 3D driver display system that uses eye tracking to create the illusion of depth, along with rear-axle steering that improves the car’s turning radius with up to ten degrees of motion. A new rear airbag system provides airbags in front of the rear passengers for the first time, reinforcing the S-Class’s long-running reputation as a technological leader.
For 2024, the S 500 received a horsepower bump to 442, while the AMG S 63 returned to the lineup as a high-performance plug-in hybrid. The S 580e remains notable for its 46 miles of battery-only range and its ability to be charged using a DC fast charger, which is unusual among plug-in hybrids. Those details help explain why the S-Class continues to appeal to buyers who want a flagship sedan that blends serious performance with advanced electrification and top-tier comfort.
The tradeoff is that this level of luxury remains expensive. The S-Class is the most expensive vehicle in its class, and many of its advanced safety and driver-assist systems are still technically part of option packages. That means the 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is best suited to buyers who value innovation, refinement, and prestige enough to accept a very high purchase price.

Should I buy a 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.69% compared with last year.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $78,507, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $119,019 average.
- It adds a newer powertrain and modern plug-in hybrid appeal.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $124,327, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $119,019 average.
- It adds standard digital key functionality and a center airbag.
The 2024 is the best fit if you want the latest balance of technology and a slightly softer market than last year. If price matters most, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are comfortable paying more.
