Is the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 7.33/10 expert rating.

The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

It is built around light, elemental driving enjoyment, and this year’s updates sharpen that formula with new steering, a reworked limited-slip rear differential, and a DSC-Track setting. The tradeoff is that it remains noisy and offers limited interior storage and cargo space, so it suits you best if driving feel matters more than everyday practicality.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is presented as a focused, mechanically simple roadster that keeps its attention on driving enjoyment rather than complexity.

Its performance notes point to a refined 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a rear-wheel-drive layout, and a six-speed manual that remains one of the best the testers have used. The cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as one of the last remaining cars in its segment and the most affordable way to get open-top driving fun on public roads or a race track.

For used buyers, that simplicity can be a plus, but the long-term ownership risk is still tied to the realities of a small, low-slung sports car that prioritizes fun over utility.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a roadster that may have been driven enthusiastically. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear from top-down use, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport versions come only in black or red paint colors with black 16-inch wheels and a black cloth interior, while Club trim adds 17-inch wheels and more paint choices. Grand Touring brings premium Nappa leather, tan interior surfaces, and a more upscale cabin feel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, with a six-speed manual standard and a six-speed automatic available only on Grand Touring. Rear-wheel drive and the car’s light weight are central to its character.
• Safety package: Every model gets low-speed forward-collision warning with automatic braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition, with adaptive cruise control standard only when paired with the automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: The latest Mazda Connect system uses an 8.8-inch display with touchscreen operation for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless Apple CarPlay is included on Club and Grand Touring, and Alexa is part of the system.
• Fuel efficiency: The performance notes cite an official EPA rating of 29 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Miata’s core formula intact with the lightest, simplest setup. It makes sense if you want the purest version and do not need the extra equipment found higher up.
• Club: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 17-inch wheels, more paint choices, and the performance-oriented hardware that helps the car feel even sharper. If you want the strongest blend of driving enjoyment and equipment, start here.
• Grand Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and convenience, including premium Nappa leather, the tan interior, and the added safety and tech features. It also unlocks the automatic transmission.

Grand Touring adds more safety features, while the automatic transmission brings adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 519 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,466, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $30,515 sits slightly below last year's $31,473.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, trim, and whether the car has been kept clean and unmodified.

Because the Miata is a niche enthusiast car, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy smart and maintain it carefully, you improve your odds of holding value better than the average used sports car.

Is the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata does not have crash-test ratings listed in the provided data.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips every 2024 MX-5 Miata with low-speed forward-collision warning with automatic braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Grand Touring adds adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition, with adaptive cruise control standard only on the Grand Touring when you choose the automatic transmission.

The safety notes also make clear that this is a lightweight sports car, so bigger, heavier vehicles offer better crash protection than the Miata.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Prices have softened 3.04% compared with last year.
• This year adds sharper steering, a revised differential, and a more modern infotainment system.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,976, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $30,515 average.
• It is a pure, lightweight roadster focused on driving enjoyment.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It stays true to the Miata formula with precise handling and a driver-focused setup.

The bottom line: If you want the sharpest version of this roadster with updated steering and tech, the 2024 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the smarter value play, while the 2025 is worth considering if you want to compare the latest iteration of the same core formula.
