overall

Summary
With 174 currently listed for sale near Sacramento, CA and an average price of $24,318, 54.0% of 2024 Mazda CX-5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Mazda CX-5 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 stands out as a compact crossover that has been steadily refined rather than redesigned, and that long-running approach gives it a polished, mature feel. Mazda positions it as an SUV for active urbanites, and it fits that role well with stylish design, taut dimensions, excellent outward visibility, a comfortable cabin, commendable quality, and impressive safety ratings. It is also genuinely enjoyable to drive, which helps explain why it remains such a strong choice.
Its appeal is reinforced by premium interior materials and standard advanced safety features, both of which add to the sense that the CX-5 punches above its class. At the same time, it is not without compromises: fuel economy is poor in Turbo models, cargo space is limited, and the technology feels outdated. Even so, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 remains distinctive because it blends everyday usability with a more upscale, driver-focused character than many shoppers expect from a compact crossover.

This is our second Mazda CX-5. Our 2015 model is still in excellent shape and we gifted it to our daughter. Our new 2024 Mazda CX-5 GS is wonderful! Luxurious, smooth ride, peppy engine, very comfortable. We love it! Friends who have driven with us thought we must have paid over $10,000 more than we did!

How much does the 2024 Mazda CX-5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,936 |
| Year-Round Low | $24,818 |
| Year-Round High | $27,198 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,195 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.95% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 7,540 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.
Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.67/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
The 2024 CX-5 fits Mazda’s goal of serving active urbanites well, with stylish design, excellent outward visibility, a comfortable cabin, commendable quality, and a driver-focused feel. It also stands out for being genuinely enjoyable to drive, which helps it feel more upscale than many compact crossovers.
The trade-offs are clear: Turbo models are hurt by poor fuel economy, cargo space is limited, and the technology feels outdated. Even so, the CX-5’s premium interior materials and standard advanced safety features help it punch above its class.
Good and great deals make up 36.0% of listings, so there’s still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The CX-5’s long-running, continuously refined design gives it a mature, polished character, and the expert evaluation emphasizes commendable quality and a well-sorted driving experience. Its standard all-wheel drive, responsive handling, and quiet highway manners also support the impression of a well-developed package.
The performance notes point to a sophisticated drivetrain and chassis tune, with Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus helping cornering and reducing body motion. The cost-effectiveness notes also suggest Mazda has improved the model over time rather than letting it stagnate.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same strengths that make it appealing can be offset by higher running costs if you choose a Turbo model.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report, because a clean title history is only one part of the picture. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a Turbo model or a higher-mileage example. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment usability, tire wear, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans 2.5 S and 2.5 Turbo models, and the base setup already includes a polished design, premium-feeling cabin, and standard all-wheel drive. Higher trims add more luxury and convenience, while the base trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
- Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while Turbo models use a 256-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four, or 227 hp on regular gas. The turbo engine is stronger, but it is also the one tied to poor fuel economy.
- Safety package: Every CX-5 includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist, while the top Turbo Signature gets the most advanced driver-monitoring and parking tech.
- Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on several trims, and Mazda Connected Services. It also supports touchscreen use for smartphone apps while driving, though Mazda’s native interface still leans on a control knob and buttons.
- Fuel efficiency: The Turbo model is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving, and the evaluation loop returned 22.9 mpg.
Which 2024 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, Carbon Turbo, Premium Turbo, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Select: This is the entry point to the CX-5 lineup, so it makes sense if you want the model’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You still get the standard safety suite and the same polished driving character, but you give up the richer equipment and premium touches found higher up.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel without jumping into the pricier models. It should suit you if you want the CX-5’s comfort and quality to feel more complete while staying below the luxury-leaning upper trims.
- Carbon Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a step up in visual appeal. It builds on the CX-5’s already stylish design and is a good fit if appearance matters as much as everyday usability.
- Premium: This is the trim to consider if you want a stronger balance of comfort, features, and value. It sits in the middle of the range and should appeal to you if you want a more thoroughly equipped CX-5 without paying for the top-end extras.
- Premium Plus: Pick this if you want the most upscale experience in the 2.5 S lineup. It is the right choice if you want the CX-5 to feel especially refined and well equipped while avoiding the Turbo model’s fuel-economy penalty.
- Carbon Turbo: This is the standout choice if you want the stronger turbocharged powertrain and a more premium presentation. It also gets the Bose premium sound system and wireless smartphone connectivity, making it the most compelling Turbo trim for many buyers.
- Premium Turbo: Choose this if you want Turbo performance with a more comfort-focused equipment mix. It makes sense if you value stronger acceleration but do not need the Signature’s extra safety and convenience hardware.
- Signature: This is the top trim and the one to buy if you want the most complete CX-5 experience. It adds the most advanced safety and parking features, making it the best fit if you want maximum equipment and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the most advanced driver-assistance and parking features are reserved for the Signature.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,540 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,818, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $26,936 sits slightly below last year's $27,195.
That mild decline suggests the CX-5 is holding value in a fairly stable way rather than swinging sharply. For a future seller, that usually means you’re less likely to face a sudden drop if you own the vehicle for a reasonable period.
The model’s broad appeal helps too: it combines style, safety, and driving enjoyment in a way that keeps it relevant in the compact SUV market. If you maintain it well and avoid the higher-running-cost Turbo setup, you should have a more predictable resale path.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 safe?
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 earns five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, except for a four-star rollover resistance rating. It has also previously earned a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS, though it did not receive that accolade for 2024.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda equips every CX-5 with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist, while the Signature trim gets a driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking.
The standard safety suite performs well, especially the lane departure and lane-keeping systems, and the adaptive headlights are excellent on dark streets. The main caveat is that the most advanced safety hardware is not standard on every trim.
Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda’s continuous refinement keeps the CX-5 polished, upscale, and enjoyable to drive.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $25,906, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $26,936 average.
- It remains appealing for style, comfort, and strong safety.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $28,106, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $26,936 average.
- It leans into sporty appeal with an upscale feel.
The bottom line: If you want the most balanced mix of price, refinement, and availability, the 2024 is the smart default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2023 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2025 is worth a look.
