How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,021 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, excellent safety features, comfortable interior, and powerful performance, especially with the turbo option. The model also stands out for its stylish design and fun-to-drive character, which helps it feel more premium than many mainstream compact SUVs.

The trade-offs are practical ones: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the technology can be unintuitive. That makes it a stronger fit if you value driving enjoyment, safety, and upscale feel more than maximum space or the easiest infotainment experience.

The model’s premium-leaning positioning is especially relevant if you want a compact SUV that feels more refined than its price suggests. Good and great deals account for 39.1% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe the CX-5 as affordable, smooth, comfortable, and excellent on safety, which points to a vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time. The expert review also emphasizes the SUV’s improved driving dynamics, quieter cabin, and more solid feel, all of which support a dependable ownership experience.

Mazda’s revised six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive add to the sense that the CX-5 is engineered for everyday confidence. The model’s premium-leaning build quality and strong safety reputation also reinforce its long-term appeal.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s condition matches its reputation, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a full inspection. Pay close attention to the cabin, cargo area, and infotainment usability, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. If you plan to use the SUV for family duty or commuting, make sure the seating position, rear-seat space, and controls work for you.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 2.5 S lineup starts with base trim and adds Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, and Premium Plus, while the 2.5 Turbo lineup includes base and Signature. Base trims are the most stripped-down, while Signature adds the most upscale interior treatment, including premium Nappa leather upholstery, real wood trim, and polished metallic accents.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, while the 2.5 Turbo delivers up to 256 hp on premium gas or 227 hp on regular gas. The turbo version is the better pick if you want stronger acceleration, while the non-turbo version is the more efficient choice.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, and Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 10.25-inch display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The system is not touch-sensing and does not have natural voice recognition, so you should test whether you’re comfortable using the center-console controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the 2.5 Turbo returns 24 mpg in combined driving. The turbo setup trades efficiency for stronger performance.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, base, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest price, but it is also the most basic way into the CX-5 lineup. It makes the most sense if you care most about getting the model’s core driving character and standard safety equipment at the lowest cost.
• Select: This is the first step up for shoppers who want a little more comfort and convenience without moving too far up the price ladder. It is a sensible middle-ground choice if you want more than the bare minimum.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without pushing into luxury-priced territory. It is a strong pick if you want a well-rounded CX-5 for daily use.
• Carbon Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top trims. It suits buyers who care about style as much as substance.
• Premium: This trim is the point where the CX-5 starts to feel notably richer, and it also brings the 10-speaker Bose premium sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio. It is a good fit if you want a more premium experience and better in-cabin amenities.
• Premium Plus: This is the strongest choice if you want a more fully equipped CX-5 without going to the top Signature trim. It also gets Mazda’s Mi-Drive modes, which add Normal, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
• base: This turbo trim is for buyers who want the stronger engine and are willing to pay for it. It mixes equipment from the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and Premium Plus versions, so it gives you a more upscale starting point than the base non-turbo model.
• Signature: This is the top trim and the one to buy if you want the most luxurious CX-5 experience. It adds the richest interior materials and the most advanced safety tech, including the surround-view camera system, parking sensors, automatic rear braking, driver monitoring, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The CX-5 2.5 S Premium adds adaptive headlights, while the top Signature reserves the most advanced safety features for itself.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,021 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,089, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $23,089 sits slightly below last year's $24,467.

That price movement suggests the CX-5 has already given back some value, which can help future buyers but may temper resale upside for current owners. If you buy at today’s average or below, you may have less room for depreciation than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher average.

The model’s strong safety reputation and premium feel should help it stay attractive to used shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, and the top Signature trim adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s premium push is backed by stronger driving dynamics and a quieter, more solid-feeling cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,583, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,089 average.
• It adds tech improvements and a new Carbon Edition.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,090, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,089 average.
• It is largely a carryover with no major changes.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and premium feel. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is the smarter budget play, while the 2023 mainly makes sense if you want the newer model year and do not mind paying more for essentially the same formula.
