Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 4.2/5 from owners and an 8/10 from expert testing. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

In use, that lines up with the truck’s strong towing focus, upscale cabin, and work-ready equipment. The main trade-offs are its fuel thirst and its bulky feel when parking, and the near-twin Chevrolet Silverado HD is noted as being cheaper. For you, that means this makes the most sense if you want a heavy-duty truck that leans luxury and capability rather than a simpler, lower-cost workhorse.

The expert drive data also emphasizes a refined powertrain and strong towing performance, which supports the sense that this is built for demanding use. The diesel setup is presented as robust and well matched to heavy-duty work, and the truck’s towing-focused hardware reinforces that impression. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck has been maintained carefully, especially if you plan to use it for frequent towing or hard work.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or heavy hauling. Because this is a heavy-duty pickup, you’ll want to pay close attention to how it was used rather than just how it looks.

Key things to evaluate:

It also includes a locking rear differential, two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty air filter, underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and a diesel exhaust brake.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $65,619 sits slightly below last year's $71,074.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you own one for a few years, resale will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck’s heavy-duty equipment has been maintained. Trucks with strong capability and premium trim content can still hold appeal, but the current trend shows that buyers are getting more negotiating room than they were a year ago.

The large power-operated side mirrors also help visibility, especially when towing or maneuvering a wide truck. For you, the main takeaway is that this is a heavy-duty pickup with a strong safety feature set, though its size still demands extra care in tight spaces.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 stands out for adding the Denali Ultimate as a newly available top trim with nearly every option and a diesel-powered towing focus.

The bottom line: If you want the newest nearby version with the strongest luxury-and-towing mix, the 2024 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a different year may give you more room to shop, but the 2024’s combination of softened pricing, strong inventory, and top-trim appeal makes it a compelling used buy.
