How much does the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 7.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,872 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Generally — with a 4.3/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating, this truck lands in strong territory for shoppers who want heavy-duty capability with a more modern cabin. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its strong performance, the range of options available, and the truck’s ride quality and aesthetics. The expert review also points to updated styling and a new off-road trim, which helps the Silverado 2500HD feel more competitive than before.

The trade-offs are that some buyers want more advanced features and technology, and the truck still has some shortcomings versus rivals in towing capacity. If you want a capable work truck that can also handle rougher terrain, the Silverado 2500HD fits that use case well.

With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels strong, dependable, and capable over time, with buyers appreciating its performance and the breadth of available configurations. The expert review also describes the diesel powertrain as quiet and well-matched to the transmission, which supports the impression of a truck that feels composed in daily use and under load.

Chevrolet also backs the truck with a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-spec trucks can be expensive to keep up, especially if you’re shopping for a diesel or a heavily equipped trim.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a truck that may have been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the equipment level matches how you plan to use the truck.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup runs from Work Truck to Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country, and the off-road-specific ZR2. The base work truck is plain but still handsome, while higher trims add more upscale styling and materials; the LT starts the move to a more tech-forward setup, and the ZR2 is the one to target if you want the most off-road-focused hardware.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.6-liter V8 gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, plus an available 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with an Allison 10-speed automatic, and the diesel is described as quiet and well-matched to the transmission.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control is optional on all trims, even the top trim, so don’t assume it comes standard.
• Infotainment: Starting on the LT trim, you get a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch configurable gauge cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Google built-in, Amazon Alexa, and available wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The truck returned 20.3 miles per gallon in one 2WD test and 17 mpg in a mixed 2WD and Auto 4WD test.

Which 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 6 trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic choice, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and care most about utility. It’s plain but still handsome, and it gets the core heavy-duty capability without the extra luxury content.
• Custom: This trim adds a body-colored grille bar and a little more visual polish, so it’s a better fit if you want something less bare-bones without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the 13.4-inch touchscreen, the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and the truck’s more modern tech setup. If you want the Silverado 2500HD to feel current without going luxury-heavy, this is the sweet spot.
• LTZ: Move here if you want a more upscale look and feel, including chrome-heavy exterior treatment and a more premium presentation. It’s a good step up if comfort and appearance matter more than keeping the budget tight.
• High Country: This is the most upscale mainstream trim, with the richest cabin materials and the most polished overall feel. It suits you if you want a heavy-duty truck that can double as a premium daily driver.
• ZR2: Choose this if off-road capability is your priority. It’s the off-road-specific trim, and the review highlights its serious hardware and capability as the standout reason to buy it.

Adaptive cruise control remains optional across the lineup, so check the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,872 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $53,679, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $53,679 sits slightly below last year's $58,266.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you a better entry point now than a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less immediate upside if you buy at today’s average, but it also means you’re entering at a more realistic market level than before.

The Silverado 2500HD’s broad appeal as a heavy-duty truck should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has not yet been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include front pedestrian braking, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator. GM’s Safety Seat is also highlighted as a useful alert system, and the truck includes Buckle to Drive and Teen Driver technology.

The main caveat is that not all advanced safety features are standard, and adaptive cruise control is optional on every trim. If safety tech matters to you, verify the exact equipment on the used truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• This year’s refresh brings better styling and a new off-road trim, which makes the truck feel more competitive than before.

The bottom line: If you want the most updated version of this heavy-duty truck, the 2024 is the one to target because it adds styling improvements and more capability while the market has softened. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024 is the better pick if you want the refreshed look and the strongest overall package.
