What’s New for the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro

It’s not what Chevy’s added, but what they’ve taken away: The 2024 model year marks the end of the Camaro’s sixth generation. Chevy simplified the Camaro lineup for its final year by discontinuing the base trim and the base turbo-four engine, though some of the remaining trim levels get special editions to commemorate the occasion.

Design

Chevy has continued to offer the Camaro in both coupe and convertible body styles. This sports car turns heads without being gaudy, even though some of the special editions in years past have been a little over-the-top. The 2024 Collector Editions come in Panther Black Matte or Panther Black Metallic Tintcoat, depending on trim, and dress up with features such as 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, a front splitter, and exclusive badging.

Powertrain

For the Camaro’s final year, Chevy has scrapped the entry-level turbo-four powertrain, so all 2024 models are V6- or V8-powered. There’s a 3.6-liter V6 rated for 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 hp and 455 lb-ft, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft. All Camaros are rear-wheel drive (RWD), and most will have a 10-speed automatic transmission, though some configurations are available with a six-speed manual. The V6 and automatic transmission models are rated for 18 mpg city, 29 highway, and 22 combined for fuel economy, but the V8s are considerably more thirsty.

Interior

Both Camaro body styles seat four passengers, though rear riders may find the accommodations a bit snug. Power-adjustable front seats are the only notable standard interior feature, though options include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Storage space is scant, particularly for convertible models.

Technology

Tech in the Camaro is modern but simple, and the infotainment system is easy to use. The Camaro comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen display, voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Options include a digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bose premium audio, wireless device charging, and a head-up display.

Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2024 Camaro an overall safety rating of five out of five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not published crash-test results for the 2024 Camaro, but the identical 2023 model earned top Good scores in four of the five tests, with the second-highest rating of Acceptable in the roof strength test. Chevrolet skimps on the safety equipment on the Camaro, including only a reversing camera and GM’s Teen Driver system. Options include forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and rear parking sensors.

Pricing

The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro is expected to go on sale in mid-2023. As of this writing, Chevy lists pricing at $30,900 for the base 1LT coupe and $36,900 for the convertible. That’s a few thousand more than the Camaro’s base price in recent years, since it’s now powered by a V6 instead of a four-cylinder. Camaro V8 models start at $38,800 for the LT1 coupe and go up to $78,100 for the ZL1 convertible.
