How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,234 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal comes from its stylish design, beautiful interior, and impressive technology, all of which help it feel modern in the luxury three-row crossover class. It also brings a sophisticated, understated personality that fits you well if you want refinement without flash.

The trade-offs are limited cargo space and third-row access that can be difficult, plus technology that can feel too touchscreen-dependent. Even so, the XC90’s 36.4% good-or-great deal share shows there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its calm, reserved driving character, strong braking feel, and the move to mild-hybrid powertrains that are designed to smooth operation. The performance notes also point to a quiet cabin and an eight-speed automatic that rarely misbehaves, which are the kinds of traits that usually matter in long-term ownership.

Volvo’s mild-hybrid setup also supports smoother starts and less intrusive stop-start behavior, which can make daily use feel more polished. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the XC90’s touchscreen-heavy controls and premium complexity may be more demanding to live with than simpler rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with premium options. Focus on cabin condition, touchscreen operation, and whether the third row and cargo area fit your needs, since those are the XC90’s most obvious practical compromises.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ mainly in equipment and luxury content, with the base trim starting the lineup and the higher trims adding more upscale features and available seating flexibility.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder foundation; the B5 makes 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the B6 makes 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard and combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, with support for maintaining distance from a stop up to highway speeds.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a 9-inch vertical touchscreen with Google OS, Google Maps, Google Assistant, and built-in Android Auto functionality.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as offering only modest fuel-economy gains, with benefits measured in just a few mpg at most.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury feel and standard safety tech without pushing the price as high as the upper trims.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of equipment and price, especially since it can be upgraded with the B6 powertrain and six-passenger seating.
• Ultimate: This is the most upscale choice, and it comes standard with the B6 powertrain; it suits you best if you want the richest version of the XC90’s design and tech experience.

Pilot Assist and the rest of the standard safety tech are included across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 update brings B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,352, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,241 average.
• It offers an available plug-in hybrid and a more sustainability-focused personality.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,956, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $38,241 average.
• It keeps the XC90’s timeless styling and adds a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and updated tech, the 2023 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer-year alternative, the 2024 is worth a look.
