Used 2022 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearSaint Paul, MN

How much does the 2022 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 24.12% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,558 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 from owners and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, impressive safety features, and luxurious family-SUV feel. The XC90 also stands out for its hybrid technology and advanced handling, which helps it feel more upscale and modern than many rivals.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and sluggish touchscreen response, so you should expect some compromises in everyday family use. Even so, for you if you want a refined three-row SUV with a premium personality and eco-minded appeal, the XC90 fits that brief well.

Good and great deals account for 38.1% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as spacious, luxurious, and safety-focused, and the review summary also points to hybrid technology and advanced handling as strengths. That combination suggests the XC90 is the kind of SUV many buyers feel confident living with over time.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the XC90’s strong driving manners and its ability to handle like a smaller SUV, which supports the case for dependable day-to-day use. Volvo’s Care by Volvo subscription can include maintenance, insurance, and wear protection for eligible vehicles, which adds a useful ownership perk for some shoppers.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, since premium features and hybrid hardware can be costly if neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the touchscreen, cabin electronics, and overall interior condition, since the XC90’s premium appeal depends heavily on those systems feeling right. It also makes sense to compare seating and trim equipment closely, because the XC90’s value changes a lot with powertrain and option content.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base T5 FWD Momentum is the entry point, while higher trims add more luxury and equipment. The T8 Inscription Expression plug-in hybrid, T8 Inscription, and T8 R-Design sit above the gas-only Momentum and T6 trims, with the T8 models aimed at buyers who want more power and electrified capability.
• Powertrain: The XC90 offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in T5 form, a supercharged and turbocharged version in T6 form, and a plug-in hybrid T8 setup with an electric motor. The T5 is the efficiency-oriented choice, while the T8 delivers the strongest output and the most advanced powertrain.
• Safety package: Volvo’s Pilot Assist combines lane-centering, set-speed or following-distance control, and minimal-driver-intervention highway assistance. Standard safety equipment also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking assist, rain-sensing wipers with integrated washers, slippery road alert, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a nine-inch portrait touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, wireless-style smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay support, Android Auto capability, and over-the-air-style convenience through connected app features. The system can feel slow to respond, so test it thoroughly before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: T5 FWD models are rated at 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined, T5 AWD models at 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, T6 AWD models at 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, and the T8 plug-in hybrid at 27 mpg combined on gas plus 55 MPGe with an 18-mile EV range. The extended-range T8 is rated at 26 mpg combined on gas plus 66 MPGe with up to 36 miles of EV range.

Which 2022 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 is offered in 7 trim levels: T5 FWD Momentum, T5 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Inscription, T8 Inscription Expression, T8 Inscription, T8 R-Design.

Here's the short version:

• T5 FWD Momentum: This is the least expensive way into the XC90, and it makes sense if you want the XC90’s style, safety, and three-row layout without paying for extra power or hybrid hardware.
• T5 AWD Momentum: This is the better-value choice if you want the entry trim’s equipment but prefer all-wheel drive for added confidence in poor weather.
• T6 AWD Momentum: This trim adds the stronger supercharged-and-turbocharged engine, making it the better pick if you want more performance without moving into the pricier luxury-focused trims.
• T6 AWD Inscription: This is the step-up choice if you want a more upscale feel and richer equipment while staying with the gasoline powertrain.
• T8 Inscription Expression: This is the best-value plug-in hybrid starting point if you want electrified driving and the XC90’s premium character without jumping straight to the top of the range.
• T8 Inscription: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a more luxurious presentation and more of the XC90’s premium content.
• T8 R-Design: This is the most expressive trim for buyers who want the plug-in hybrid setup with a sportier appearance and top-end positioning.

The safety package is a major strength across the lineup, and Pilot Assist plus the rest of Volvo’s standard driver-assistance suite make even lower trims feel well equipped.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,558 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.12% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,337, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $29,352 sits slightly below last year's $38,682.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside left than someone who paid closer to the original market peak.

Strong demand for well-kept luxury SUVs can help support resale, especially when the vehicle has a strong reputation for safety and comfort. The XC90’s premium image and owner satisfaction should help it remain appealing to used buyers over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking assist, rain-sensing wipers with integrated washers, slippery road alert, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition. Volvo’s Pilot Assist adds lane-centering and adaptive highway support, making it one of the more reassuring driver-assistance systems in this class.

That said, you should still test the system yourself, because assisted-driving features work best when you understand their limits and how they feel in real traffic. The XC90’s safety reputation is a major strength, but you should confirm that every driver-assistance feature on the specific vehicle works properly.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a stylish design, strong safety ratings, and available plug-in hybrid appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,341, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,352 average.
• It remains a safety-focused luxury SUV with minimal changes.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,241, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $29,352 average.
• It adds updated mild-hybrid powertrains and more forward-thinking infotainment.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and premium character, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the smarter value play; if you want newer powertrain and tech updates, the 2023 is the better upgrade path.
