How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal comes through in its understated luxury, stylish design, beautiful interior, and impressive technology. It fits especially well if you want a family-oriented luxury SUV that feels polished rather than flashy.

The trade-offs are real: cargo space is limited, the third row is difficult to access, and the technology can feel too touchscreen-dependent.

36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its strong safety reputation and its smooth, reserved driving character. Its mild-hybrid powertrains are designed to improve efficiency and smooth operation, and the auto stop-start system is described as almost imperceptible.

Volvo also emphasizes convenience in the ownership experience, with standard Google-based infotainment and a powertrain setup that aims to balance efficiency with everyday drivability.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the XC90’s premium complexity and touchscreen-heavy controls can make upkeep and daily use feel more demanding than simpler rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, touchscreen responsiveness, and whether the third row and cargo area fit your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ most in equipment level, with the higher trims delivering more upscale features and a richer cabin experience. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting if you expect the fullest luxury feel.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains for 2023, replacing the older T5 and T6 engines. The setup is aimed at smoother operation and modest efficiency gains rather than dramatic fuel-economy improvement.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, and it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist to help maintain distance and keep you centered. The standard safety tech is a major strength across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The 9-inch vertical touchscreen runs Google OS, with Google Maps, Spotify, NPR, and Google Assistant built in. It also supports Google Home commands, but many functions still live inside the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as delivering only a few mpg of improvement at most, so don’t expect a major efficiency jump from the 2023 update.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury, Google-based infotainment, and standard safety tech without pushing the price too high. It makes the most sense if you want the XC90 experience at the lowest starting cost.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying well below the top trim’s price. If you want a more complete luxury feel without going all the way to the Ultimate, this is the one to focus on.
• Ultimate: This is the most upscale version, and it’s the right pick if you want the richest cabin and the most premium presentation. It suits you best if you’re prioritizing comfort and features over value.

The standard safety package includes Pilot Assist, with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist as standard equipment.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $38,770 sits slightly below last year's $45,606.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you shop near the lower end of the current range, you reduce the chance of taking the steepest early ownership hit.

The model’s strong brand image, premium positioning, and broad appeal as a luxury family SUV should help support demand later on. A well-kept example with desirable equipment will likely hold buyer interest better than a neglected one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings updated B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,489, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,770 average.
• It offers an eco-conscious angle with available plug-in hybrid efficiency.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $45,077, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $38,770 average.
• It remains appealing in the luxury SUV segment with a broader powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and updated tech, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is the next step up.
