Used 2023 Volvo XC90 for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,249 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out as an understated luxury three-row crossover with a stylish design, a beautiful interior, and a modern edge from its Google-based infotainment setup. It fits you well if you want a sophisticated family SUV that feels refined rather than flashy.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and third-row access that can be difficult, plus touchscreen-heavy controls that can feel less intuitive than physical buttons. Even so, the XC90’s overall polish and technology help it remain compelling in a class where refinement matters.

34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its strong safety reputation, its refined cabin, and its updated mild-hybrid powertrains for 2023. The move to the B5 and B6 setups adds smoother operation and a modest efficiency improvement, while the overall package still feels mature and well sorted.

Its mild-hybrid system is designed to support the engine rather than drive the vehicle on electricity alone, and the auto stop-start behavior is described as almost imperceptible. Volvo also positions the XC90 as part of its broader electrification path, which may appeal if you want a more forward-looking powertrain.

If you buy used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that the touchscreen-dependent cabin may age less gracefully than the rest of the SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, touchscreen usability, and whether the third row and cargo area fit your needs in real life.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ in equipment, with the base trim missing some of the richer luxury touches you’ll find higher up.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both based on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; the update favors smoother operation and slightly better efficiency.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, along with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, and the system is supported by Volvo’s strong safety reputation.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a 9-inch vertically oriented touchscreen with Google OS, built-in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Android Auto integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup brings only a few mpg of improvement at most, but it does help smooth out stop-start operation.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury experience with the standard safety tech and Google-based infotainment. It makes sense if you want the XC90’s style and tech without stretching for extras.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the top trim’s price. If you want a more complete luxury feel without going all the way to the top, this is the one to focus on.
• Ultimate: This is the most richly equipped version, and it’s the right pick if you want the most upscale cabin presentation and the strongest feature set.

Safety tech is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim to get Volvo’s driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,249 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,933, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $37,933 sits slightly below last year's $44,299.

That decline suggests the XC90 has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may be working from a lower starting point than owners saw a year ago.

The good news is that the XC90 still has strong appeal thanks to its design, safety reputation, and premium cabin. Those traits can help support resale demand even as prices normalize.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The XC90 comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Volvo’s Pilot Assist system, which helps maintain distance from the vehicle ahead from a standstill up to highway speed. Those features are part of the standard equipment list, so you do not need to hunt for a specific trim to get them.

The main safety caveat is that the XC90’s touchscreen-heavy interface can make some functions less convenient to access while driving, even though the underlying driver-assistance hardware is strong.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 update brings B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,029, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $37,933 average.
• It offers plug-in hybrid availability and a more eco-minded personality.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,856, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $37,933 average.
• It emphasizes timeless styling and a broader electrified lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, modern tech, and strong safety, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want to pay more for the newer model-year context, the 2024 is the alternative to compare.
