Used 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 for Sale nearPortland, OR

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 7.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,810 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, smooth ride, quiet operation, good acceleration, and handling. The overview also points to a more affordable entry point, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a mainstream-EV feel that still gets updated with new tech and driver aids.

The main trade-offs are a polarizing design and technology that can feel unintuitive. That matters most if you want a polished interface as much as you want comfort and everyday usability.

With 43.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still looks favorable for shoppers who want a well-equipped EV at a reasonable price.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a trouble-free feel in daily use, with praise for value, smoothness, quiet operation, and build quality. It also suggests the ID.4 is the kind of EV you can count on for comfortable commuting and routine driving.

Volkswagen’s powertrain notes reinforce that impression, with the ID.4’s EV setup described as refined and familiar rather than demanding. The battery and high-voltage coverage also help reduce early ownership anxiety.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the car’s tech and charging behavior still suit your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or battery sizes. Focus on overall condition, charging performance, and whether the software and controls feel intuitive to you in real use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base ID.4 Standard gets the smaller battery and rear-wheel drive, while higher trims add the larger battery and available all-wheel drive. The interior is described as high-quality even in the base model, but the lower trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more range and equipment.
• Powertrain: Single-motor rear-wheel-drive models make 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, while dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions increase output to 295 hp and 339 lb-ft. The smaller battery helps reduce weight, which should improve acceleration and handling.
• Safety package: Travel Assist 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control and automated lane centering, and standard equipment also includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear park distance control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, Emergency Assist 3.0, Park Assist Plus, an automated lane-change feature, and a 360-degree camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard touchscreen is 12.0 inches, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The system also includes the ID.Cockpit digital instrument cluster and software updates aimed at better responsiveness.
• Range & charging: VW estimates 209 miles of range for the 62-kWh models and up to 275 miles for the 82-kWh rear-drive versions. DC fast charging can reach 10% to 80% in 30 minutes on 82-kWh models, while the 62-kWh battery charges at 140 kW. The usable battery capacity is not stated.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, confirm normal home-charging behavior, and make sure DC fast charging still works as expected. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains and review charging history for signs of heavy fast-charging use.

Which 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 5 trim levels: ID.4 Standard, ID.4 S, ID.4 Pro, ID.4 Pro S, ID.4 Pro S Plus.

Here's the short version:

• ID.4 Standard: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the smaller 62-kWh battery and rear-wheel drive. It still gets the same core cabin quality and standard tech, so it makes sense if affordability matters most.
• ID.4 S: Choose this if you want the smaller-battery setup but want a step up from the base model without jumping all the way to the larger-battery trims. It should suit you if you want a more balanced mix of price and equipment.
• ID.4 Pro: This is the better all-around choice if you want the larger 82-kWh battery and more range without going all the way to the top. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest blend of range and everyday usability.
• ID.4 Pro S: Pick this if you want the larger battery plus a more upscale feel and more equipment. It’s the trim that best fits shoppers who want comfort and features to matter as much as range.
• ID.4 Pro S Plus: This is the most fully equipped version, but it also pushes the price much higher. It makes the most sense if you want the most content and don’t mind paying for it.

The safety package is a strong part of the lineup, and the standard driver-assist equipment is a major reason to consider even the lower trims.

• Inventory: There are 1,810 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,957, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $22,126 sits slightly below last year's $24,007.

That price movement suggests the ID.4 has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one, the current market favors realistic pricing over waiting for a rebound.

The year’s lower average price can help demand from shoppers who want an affordable EV with strong equipment. That can support resale interest, especially for well-kept examples with desirable trim and battery combinations.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2023 ID.4 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The ID.4 comes with a strong standard driver-assistance suite that includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear park distance control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, Travel Assist 2.0 with adaptive cruise control and automated lane centering, Emergency Assist 3.0, Park Assist Plus, an automated lane-change feature, and a 360-degree camera system.

The main caveat is that IIHS ratings for this model year were not published, though the similar prior model earned top marks. Even so, the standard safety equipment is extensive and should give you a lot of confidence.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 43.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds a new base model, a smaller battery option, and more standard tech and driver aids.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $22,983, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $22,126 average.
• It brings a more powerful rear-drive motor and improved range.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2023 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong safety, solid owner satisfaction, and plenty of inventory. If you’re willing to spend more for a more polished and improved EV experience, the 2024 is the better upgrade path.
