How much does the 2023 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 922 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Prius earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

You get a hatchback that leans into a sleeker design, a more modern cabin presentation, and a big jump in power without giving up the efficiency focus that defines the Prius. That makes it a strong fit if you want a hybrid that feels more current than the old version while still serving as an everyday commuter.

The main trade-offs are the significant price bump over the previous model and the engine can drone loudly when pushed hard. It also gives up some interior space and cargo room, so you should weigh style and performance gains against practicality if you regularly carry passengers or gear.

With 35.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Prius is presented as a hybrid that builds on Toyota’s reputation for efficiency and everyday practicality, while the new generation adds more power and a more refined driving feel. The expert review also describes the car as solid and stout over rough surfaces, with a cabin that feels well put together rather than cheap or flimsy.

Its powertrain is described as more athletic and eager than before, with ample acceleration and no lag to speak of in normal driving. That matters for reliability-minded shoppers because a car that feels composed and predictable in daily use is usually easier to live with over time.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the higher-output hybrid setup and added complexity can make repairs more expensive than on simpler cars, so a clean service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, brakes, tires, and cabin electronics, and pay close attention to whether the car shows signs of hard use or incomplete maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE gives you the core Prius experience with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the standard safety suite, while the XLE adds 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. The Limited adds the larger screen, a JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key, making it the most feature-rich choice.
• Powertrain: You get a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Front-wheel-drive models make 194 total horsepower, while all-wheel-drive models make 196 total horsepower. The car uses a continuously variable automatic transmission, and the added power makes it feel much more responsive than older Priuses.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trims and includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: The LE and XLE come with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLE can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen, and that larger display is standard on the Limited. All trims also get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, six USB-C ports, and an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The Prius is described as excellent on fuel economy, but no MPG figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2023 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Prius is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials: the standard safety suite, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It’s the trim to choose if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need extra comfort or convenience features.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the biggest everyday upgrades, including 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This is the fully loaded version, adding the larger 12.3-inch screen, JBL audio, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key. Choose this if you want the most comfort and tech and are willing to pay for it.

All trims include Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, and the Limited can be optioned with Advanced Park.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 922 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,059, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $27,967 sits slightly below last year's $27,987.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern usually means buyers are still comfortable paying near current market levels, especially for a model with broad appeal.

For you, that means depreciation pressure appears modest right now. If you keep the car in good condition and maintain it well, you’re more likely to preserve value than if the market were dropping sharply.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2023 Prius has Toyota’s latest suite of active safety features bundled together as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

That suite includes radar-based adaptive cruise control that works at any speed, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Those features are standard on all trims, so you don’t have to move up the lineup to get the core safety tech.

You also get stability control, traction control, eight airbags including seat-mounted side airbags, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. Advanced Park is available on the Limited trim, which adds a convenience layer for parking but isn’t required for the main safety package.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings a sleeker redesign, more power, and standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,641, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,967 average.
• It adds available AWD and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

The bottom line: If you want the better-looking, more powerful Prius and you’re shopping the used market carefully, the 2023 is the stronger value play. If you’re willing to spend more for the newer model year and want the broader powertrain lineup, the 2024 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2023 gives you the core redesign benefits without paying the newer-year premium.
