How much does the 2023 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 946 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Prius earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The 2023 Prius is aimed at you if you want a hybrid that feels much more stylish than earlier versions while still delivering the fuel-sipping character the name is known for. The overview and expert review both point to a major design upgrade, a big jump in power, and a more complete overall package than previous Priuses.

The trade-offs are real, though: the price is up significantly, the engine can drone when you push it hard, and interior space and cargo room have shrunk. Even so, the car’s broader appeal comes from pairing efficiency with a more modern look and a reasonable set of interior tech and comfort features.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Prius is presented as a hybrid with proven everyday appeal, and the overview emphasizes efficiency and a strong ownership proposition. The expert review adds that it feels more athletic and eager than before, while still preserving the fuel-sipping character that made the Prius famous.

Its powertrain is described as a new 2.0-liter setup with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery, and the review says it delivers ample acceleration in daily driving. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a first-generation premium that is justified by the upgrades, which can be reassuring if you want a newer-feeling used hybrid.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying more up front for a car whose value depends on whether you prioritize efficiency and style over maximum space.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the market looks clean overall. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the condition of the hybrid system, brakes, tires, and cabin wear. Because this model’s value proposition depends on its newer styling and upgraded equipment, condition matters a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE gives you the essentials, including the standard safety suite and an 8-inch touchscreen, while the XLE adds 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, front and rear parking sensors, and a smart key. The Limited adds the larger screen, a JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key.
• Powertrain: You get a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a more powerful electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Front-wheel-drive models make 194 total horsepower, while all-wheel-drive models make 196 total horsepower.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all trims and includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is also included, and Advanced Park is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: The LE and XLE come with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLE can be optioned with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and that larger display is standard on the Limited. All trims also have a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The powertrain is described as fuel-sipping, and the review notes that the car preserves the efficiency character the Prius is known for.

Which 2023 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Prius is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value play if you want the Prius experience at the lowest entry point. You still get the standard safety suite, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core hybrid efficiency that defines the car.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including 19-inch wheels, faux leather seats, a power driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, parking sensors, and a smart key. It’s also the trim the review team would choose.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale Prius, with the larger touchscreen standard, plus a JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Digital Key.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, so you don’t have to move up a trim to get the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 946 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,059, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $27,687 sits slightly below last year's $27,932.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile. For a future seller, that’s a useful sign because it points to predictable pricing instead of a sharp drop-off.

The Prius also benefits from strong buyer interest tied to its efficiency, updated styling, and broad appeal as a hybrid. If you keep the car in good condition and avoid heavy wear, you should be in a reasonable position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Prius safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all 2023 Prius models, and it includes radar-based adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alerts with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, and Proactive Driving Assist. The car also includes stability control, traction control, eight airbags, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

The review notes that Proactive Driving Assist works well and can be disabled through the menu if you prefer a more analog feel. Advanced Park is available on the Limited trim, so that feature is not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings a major styling overhaul and a big power increase while keeping the Prius efficiency formula intact.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,157, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,687 average.
• It adds all-wheel drive and a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the newer design and strong value in today’s used market. Consider the 2024 if you’re willing to pay more for added flexibility and a newer model-year alternative.
