Used 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid cost?

Prices have softened 2.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 834 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a model with a 5/5 user rating and a 5.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the great mileage, comfortable ride, and stylish design. The Highlander Hybrid also fits buyers who want a midsize, three-row crossover with a quiet cabin and a family-friendly focus on efficiency and reassurance.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, the interior materials feel cheap, and the third row is cramped. In practical terms, this is a better fit if you value efficiency, safety, and everyday comfort more than polish or driving excitement.

Good and great deals account for 36.6% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as dependable in everyday use, with strong mileage and a comfortable, trouble-free feel that suits long-term ownership. The hybrid powertrain is built around a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with electric motor assistance, and the setup is aimed at steady, efficient use rather than hard driving.

Toyota also emphasizes a quiet, civil cabin and standard safety systems that support confidence over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid wear-related issues in a busy family SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper report. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin wear, brake condition, and how the hybrid system feels in normal driving. Pay close attention to whether the third row, interior trim, and controls show the kind of wear you’d expect from family use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE trim level is front-wheel drive, while XLE, Bronze Edition, Limited, and Platinum are also offered; Limited and Platinum add power folding exterior mirrors, and Platinum includes a surround-view camera.
• Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with two electric motor-generators, with a third electric assist motor for AWD; Toyota says it makes 243 combined horsepower.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road sign assist; hybrids also get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while Bronze Edition, Limited, and Platinum get a 12.3-inch display; both include over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-device Bluetooth pairing, HD Radio, and SiriusXM.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says the Platinum test vehicle should have averaged 35 mpg in combined driving, though the test vehicle returned 28.7 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, Bronze Edition, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it makes the Highlander Hybrid accessible if you want the hybrid powertrain and standard safety without paying for extras.
• XLE: This is the trim to consider if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value, since it builds on the base setup without jumping straight to the pricier luxury-oriented trims.
• Bronze Edition: Choose this if you want the larger 12.3-inch infotainment display and a more distinctive midrange setup.
• Limited: This is the better pick if you want more comfort and convenience, including power folding exterior mirrors and the larger touchscreen.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the surround-view camera and the most upscale feature set, but it makes the most sense only if you want the top trim experience.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, while hybrids also get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 834 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,018, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $39,372 sits slightly below last year's $40,231.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper future resale gains if you sell soon. Even so, the Highlander Hybrid’s strong reputation for efficiency and family usefulness should help it stay relevant with shoppers who want a practical three-row hybrid.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid safe?

The Highlander Hybrid earns excellent overall crash-test ratings from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road sign assist. Hybrids also include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Platinum versions add front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and Platinum adds a surround-view camera.

The main caveat is that the driver-assistance system can get confused when lanes merge or split, or when markings are worn or partially obscured. Even so, it works especially well in heavier freeway traffic, where it feels easy to trust.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings fresh technology, including a new 12.3-inch digital display on upper trims and updated Toyota Audio Multimedia systems.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,451, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $39,372 average.
• It emphasizes efficiency and value over flash.

The bottom line: If you want the newer tech, stronger market selection, and a model year with softened pricing, the 2023 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative, especially if you’re focused on efficiency and value rather than the latest features.
