How much does the 2023 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 496 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 a good car?

With a user rating of 3.88/5 and an expert rating of 7.67/10, the 2023 Toyota GR86 looks strongest if you want a focused sports coupe rather than a do-everything daily driver.

The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the fun driving experience, nimble handling, and affordability, and they also describe it as a great sports car for enthusiasts. The expert review reinforces that with notes about blissful handling dynamics, sharp acceleration, and straightforward controls. The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment system is dated, the rear seat is small, and cabin noise is noticeable. That makes the GR86 a better fit if you value driver engagement and can live with limited practicality. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is presented as a car you can count on for an engaging, repeatable driving experience, especially if you value a simple, focused sports-car formula.

Owners’ feedback points to a reliable-feeling ownership experience through praise for its fun driving character, nimble handling, and affordability. The expert review also emphasizes that the car stays planted and predictable, with a low center of gravity that supports confident cornering and a setup that feels composed on winding roads. Toyota recommends premium fuel for the GR86, so your running costs may be a little higher than you expect if you’re comparing it with more ordinary compact cars. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about whether the car has been driven hard or modified.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have seen enthusiastic use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of track use, and any evidence of poor maintenance. You should also pay close attention to cabin condition, tire wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim includes manually adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Ultrasuede upholstery accents, cloth seating, push-button start, power doors and windows, a digital speedometer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, an 8-inch touchscreen, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premium trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, aluminum sport pedals, leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, heated sport bucket seats, and an eight-speaker stereo. The Premium trim is the better value if you want the fuller feature set.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available six-speed automatic transmission, and a limited-slip differential is included regardless of gearbox choice.
• Safety package: On automatic-transmission models, the GR86 includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a fully digital instrument panel and a six-speaker stereo. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to an eight-speaker unit.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic transmission returns EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The manual returns 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. Toyota recommends premium fuel.

Which 2023 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core GR86 experience: the 2.4-liter boxer engine, rear-wheel drive, a six-speed manual or available automatic, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the simple driver-focused cabin. If you want the lowest-cost way into the car, this is the one to start with.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the GR86 to feel more complete. It adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, the duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, heated sport bucket seats, leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, and an upgraded eight-speaker stereo. It also adds blind-spot monitoring, making it the smarter pick for most shoppers.

If you choose the automatic transmission, you also get the full set of advanced driver-assistance features; the manual does not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 496 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $29,435 sits slightly above last year's $29,257.

That small increase suggests the GR86 has held its value fairly well for a niche sports coupe. For you, that means the market is not showing signs of a sharp drop that would punish a future resale. It also suggests buyers still place a premium on the car’s enthusiast appeal and limited-supply character. If you plan to sell later, a clean history and well-kept condition should matter a lot.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 has been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earned top marks across the board, including a best score of Superior for its crash-prevention technology.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The automatic-transmission model includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel. The main caveat is that these advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the automatic transmission, so manual-transmission shoppers give up some safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2023 keeps the GR86’s sharp handling, strong acceleration, and straightforward controls intact.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,908, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,435 average.
• The 2022 is the redesigned version that emphasizes driving enjoyment and value.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, inventory, and enthusiast appeal, the 2023 is the cleaner pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2022 is the better value path as long as you’re comfortable with the older model-year pricing.
