How much does the 2023 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 489 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is a strong fit if you want a focused sports coupe that prioritizes driving enjoyment over everyday practicality. It earns a 3.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating, which lines up with its enthusiast-first mission.

The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, nimble handling, and affordability. The review summary also points to its appeal as a great sports car for enthusiasts, with performance that feels engaging and rewarding.

The trade-offs are clear: the infotainment system is dated, the rear seat is small, and cabin noise is noticeable. That makes the GR86 best for you if you value road feel and sharp dynamics more than passenger space or a quiet commute.

With 28.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is built around a straightforward rear-wheel-drive sports-car formula, and owners describe it as fun, nimble, and affordable.

The owner feedback also points to a car you can count on for an engaging driving experience, with language centered on dependable enjoyment and long-term enthusiasm rather than complexity. The expert test-drive notes reinforce that theme by emphasizing the car’s direct steering, low center of gravity, and balanced chassis behavior.

Toyota also recommends premium fuel for the GR86, which is worth factoring into ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about how hard the car may have been driven.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have seen enthusiastic use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to signs of hard driving, tire wear, brake condition, and interior wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim gives you the essentials, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premium trim adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, heated sport bucket seats, leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, and an upgraded eight-speaker stereo. If you want the best-value setup, the Premium trim is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard, and a six-speed automatic is available. The limited-slip differential is included regardless of transmission choice.
• Safety package: The automatic-transmission model includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel. Those features are not described as standard on the manual.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a fully digital instrument panel and a six-speaker stereo. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to eight speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic returns 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The manual returns 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the GR86, and it still gives you the core enthusiast formula: rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and care most about the driving experience itself.
• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the most complete version of the car. It adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, heated sport bucket seats, leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, and an upgraded stereo. It is the best-value choice if you want the GR86 to feel more polished without losing its character.

The Premium trim also adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 489 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,149, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $29,156 sits slightly above last year's $28,937.

That small increase suggests the GR86 has held its value fairly well in the used market. For you, that means demand is still healthy enough to support pricing, especially for clean examples with desirable equipment.

Because the year-over-year change is modest, you should expect resale to remain relatively stable if the car stays in good condition. Well-kept examples with accident-free histories and lower mileage should be easier to move later than heavily modified or hard-driven cars.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA, but it has been evaluated by IIHS and earned top marks across the board.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The automatic-transmission model includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

One important caveat is that these advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the automatic transmission, so manual-transmission shoppers give up some safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• It keeps the GR86 formula focused on sharp handling, strong acceleration, and straightforward controls.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,422, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,156 average.
• It is the redesigned version of the Toyota 86 and emphasizes driving enjoyment with strong value.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the more current used-market option with stable pricing and a strong mix of enthusiast appeal and available inventory. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
