CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Crown
overall

Summary
With 363 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,069.00, 29.8% of 2023 Toyota Crowns for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Crown 3.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
86.5% of 2023 Crown models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Crown stands out as Toyota’s bold new large sedan, and its most distinctive trait is the elevated ride that gives it a middle ground between a traditional sedan and an SUV. That unusual stance is paired with a striking design and fuel efficiency that should make it appealing to a wide range of shoppers.
It is also described as comfortable, which adds to its everyday appeal. The tradeoffs are clear, though: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials feel cheap. For buyers who value efficiency, style, and a more upright driving position over luxury or strong acceleration, the 2023 Toyota Crown offers a distinctive package.

Vehicle rides and drives GREAT! Vehicle has many safety features that enhance one’s experience behind the wheel… Excellent value, and I would say it compares to luxury vehicle at a reasonable price point…

Reviewed a 2023 Toyota Crown on May 29, 2023
I did driving Crown Platinum test several times and each time was disappointed. Limited head and shoulder room in comparison with my Avalon Limited 2011. More stiff suspension. During the last test the Crown Platinum had a permanent warning about the hybrid system mulfunction and check engine. And it was on a brand new car that had only 2 miles on the odometer. The dealer was not honest and told me that is normal. Very disappointed.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Crown cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $34,156 |
| Year-Round Low | $32,939.45 |
| Year-Round High | $35,015.05 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $35,014 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.45% |
Prices have softened 2.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 371 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and condition across the market.
If you find a listing below $32,939.45, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown a good car?
With a 3.5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating, the 2023 Toyota Crown looks like a solid fit if you value efficiency and style more than outright performance or luxury.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.
The Crown’s elevated ride gives you a middle ground between a traditional sedan and an SUV, and its striking design broadens its appeal. It is also described as comfortable, which helps it work well as an everyday commuter or family sedan. The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials feel cheap.
The 27.0% share of good or great deals suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown reliable?
The Crown is presented as a new model with a focus on efficiency, comfort, and a standard hybrid setup that should suit everyday use well.
Its standard hybrid powertrain is described as economical, and the cabin is tuned for comfort rather than stress. The performance notes also suggest the powertrains are more than adequate for most drivers, even if they are not especially quick.
Toyota’s standard hybrid system and the available AWD setup should make the Crown a sensible long-term choice for used buyers who want efficiency without giving up all-weather traction. The main ownership risk is that you are still buying a first-year model, so you should pay close attention to condition and maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title does not guarantee perfect condition. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the hybrid system, tires, brakes, and any signs of interior wear, since the cabin materials are described as less upscale than the price might suggest. It is also worth confirming that the driver-assistance features operate smoothly, especially if you plan to rely on them in daily driving.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Crown’s elevated ride height and distinctive styling are part of the appeal, but the base trim is still the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about premium touches. The cabin uses a mix of hard but sturdy plastics with cushioned touch points, so you should judge whether the interior feel matches your expectations.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with 236 horsepower and AWD, while the Platinum can add the Hybrid Max powertrain with 340 horsepower. The base hybrid is the efficiency play, while the Hybrid Max is the stronger choice if you want more urgency.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA software updates, and a wireless charging pad. Higher trims can upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL system, and digital key capability is standard on the Platinum and available on the Limited.
- Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates the base hybrid at 42 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 41 mpg combined, while the Hybrid Max is rated at 29 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Toyota Crown trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is offered in 3 trim levels: XLE, Limited, Platinum.

- XLE: This is the value pick if you want the Crown’s core appeal without stretching your budget. You still get the standard hybrid powertrain, AWD, the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the full suite of standard driver-assistance features.
- Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale experience without jumping all the way to the top model. It builds on the standard equipment with a stronger feature mix, and it is the better middle-ground choice for shoppers who want more comfort and tech.
- Platinum: This is the most feature-rich version, and it is the one to choose if you want the available Hybrid Max powertrain, adaptive suspension, and the most advanced convenience features. It is the right fit if you care most about performance and equipment rather than value.
The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system, while the Limited can be equipped with digital key functionality.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but not so much that you can ignore good listings.
- Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 371 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.45% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,939.45, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Crown's resale value?
The current average of $34,156 sits slightly below last year's $35,014.
That price movement suggests the Crown has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean a future seller should expect some depreciation pressure. The current market still shows a meaningful spread between the low and high end, so condition and equipment will matter when it comes time to resell. If you buy well now, you should be better positioned to limit losses later.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
The adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist systems are described as well-tuned, but some of the newer driver aids can be intrusive. In particular, the Curve Speed Reduction feature can slow the vehicle more than you may want, and driver-attention alerts were noted as false alarms in testing. Many of those features can be disabled, but you should verify how they behave before you buy.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Crown or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.45% compared with last year.
- The all-new 2023 Toyota Crown finds a unique middle ground between large sedans and SUVs with its elevated ride, and its standout fuel efficiency gives it broad appeal.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the right path if you want the Crown’s distinctive design, elevated driving position, and strong efficiency in its first model year. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market closely and focus on clean, well-priced listings, since the current spread still leaves room for a better deal.
