Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is a distinctive choice in the SUV market, maintaining its traditional truck-based architecture which appeals to off-roading enthusiasts. Despite being an older design, it has held up well, integrating modern safety features such as blind-spot monitoring while delivering on its promise of reliability and ruggedness. Enthusiasts praise its spacious interior and the powerful 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower, allowing it to tackle tough terrains effortlessly. However, it does fall short in fuel efficiency, achieving just 17 mpg combined, and its handling on paved roads can feel less refined than some competitors. Overall, the 4Runner is best suited for those who prioritize off-road capability and durability over fuel economy and contemporary handling dynamics.
