Used 2023 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 3,432 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and strong performance, and they also highlight the spacious third row and the solid-feeling interior layout. The 4Runner’s easy-to-use features and family-friendly cabin also come through as recurring positives.

The trade-offs are clear: it is not especially refined on the road, and fuel efficiency is a common complaint. For you, that means the 4Runner makes the most sense if you value durability, space, and a rugged driving character more than efficiency or polish.

Good and great deals account for 34.7% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Owners also describe it as reliable and durable, with a reputation for being something you can count on over time.

The expert evaluation also points to a reputation for legendary reliability and a feel that it is built to last. On top of that, every 4Runner comes with free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age and wear can matter more here than on newer rivals, so condition and maintenance history should carry extra weight.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, maintenance history, and how the vehicle has been used. Given the 4Runner’s rugged mission, condition matters more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition is based on the SR5 Premium and adds standard 4WD, retro styling touches, bronze wheels, bronze badges, bronze stitching, floor mats, and a numbered plaque. Base trims are simpler, while the higher trims add more specialized hardware or appearance upgrades.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and a five-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard unless you choose 4WD, and the available 4WD systems include part-time and full-time setups depending on trim.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.
• Infotainment: The biggest touchscreen is 8 inches, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air capability are not stated.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA combined rating is 17 mpg, and the review’s real-world average was 16.9 mpg.

Which 2023 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point if you want the 4Runner’s core ruggedness, simple controls, and standard safety tech without paying for extra equipment you may not need.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most balanced mix of everyday comfort and the 4Runner’s traditional strengths, and it also serves as the base for the 40th Anniversary Special Edition.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a suspension tuned for better on-road athleticism while keeping the 4Runner formula intact.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the pick for you if off-road capability matters most, since it adds a suspension designed to improve wheel articulation by disconnecting the sway bars.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: Pick this if you want the off-road hardware of the TRD Off-Road with a more upscale feature set.
• 40th Anniversary Special Edition: This is the style-focused choice, with retro graphics, bronze accents, and standard 4WD, but it is limited-production and more about appearance than added capability.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the full-time 4WD option and a more road-oriented setup.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialized choice, with a suspension tuned for high-speed performance in the dirt.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,432 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $41,386, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $43,208 sits slightly below last year's $43,241.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign if you plan to sell later. It means buyers are still willing to pay close to recent levels for the right example, especially if it is clean and well maintained.

Because the price range has stayed tight, a well-kept 4Runner should remain relatively easy to position in the used market. Strong condition, documented maintenance, and desirable trim content should matter more than chasing short-term price swings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with a three-star rating for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and a three-star rating for rollover resistance.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

The main caveat is that the 4Runner’s crash-test results lag behind newer rivals, especially in rollover resistance and the IIHS small overlap frontal test, where it gets a Marginal rating for driver protection.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,927, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,208 average.
• It emphasizes rugged capability and everyday usability.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $46,652, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,208 average.
• It leans harder into reliability and cargo space while still feeling dated.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year mix of steady pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and standard safety upgrades, the 2023 is the best all-around pick. If price matters most, the 2022 is the smarter value play; if you want the newest example and can pay more, the 2024 is the alternative.
