There are 9,786 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 RAM 1500 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise the upscale interior, comfortable ride, and solid performance. The user feedback also points to stylish design and good fuel economy for a full-size truck.

The trade-offs are that some owners mention a small back seat and minor issues with specific features, while the expert review notes that advanced safety features are not standard and rivals offer more technology.

For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want a polished, comfortable full-size pickup rather than the most tech-heavy one in the segment. It still has broad appeal, and 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with owners highlighting its solid performance and comfortable, trouble-free everyday use. The expert review also emphasizes the Ram’s smooth ride and well-matched powertrain, which supports the sense that it’s built to be easy to live with over time.

The gas engine comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk is always higher when a truck has been used hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 RAM 1500?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a full-size pickup, since condition can vary a lot depending on how the truck was used. Focus on wear items, cabin condition, and whether the equipment on the truck matches the trim and options you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited and TRX. Lower trims use a small 5-inch infotainment screen, while mid trims typically get an 8.4-inch touchscreen; the Limited adds a more upscale cabin with leather, open-pore wood, and a 12-inch portrait-oriented screen.
• Powertrain: You can get rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with a 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque standard on lower trims, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with eTorque optional on lower trims and standard on upper trims, and a 3.0-liter diesel available on most trims. The V8 is strong off the line, and the eTorque system helps with fuel economy and smooth stop/start operation.
• Safety package: Advanced driver aids are not standard, and even automatic emergency braking is not standard across the board. Blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are optional or bundled, so check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get a 5-inch screen, mid trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and upper trims can have a 12-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and some trucks also offer a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and surround-view camera system.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 4WD eTorque setup is rated at 17 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined, while the diesel returns 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The TRX is much thirstier at 10 mpg city, 14 mpg highway, and 12 mpg combined.

Which 2023 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2023 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited and TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the least expensive path into the lineup, but you should expect a more basic setup and fewer convenience features than the higher trims. It makes sense if you want the Ram’s core capability and are willing to keep equipment simple.
• Tradesman HFE: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more efficiency-focused version of the entry-level truck. It’s a practical choice if you care more about value and fuel-conscious use than luxury features.
• Big Horn/Lone Star: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you into a more well-rounded setup without jumping too far up the price ladder. It’s a smart middle ground if you want a nicer daily driver without paying for the premium trims.
• Laramie: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale cabin and more comfort-oriented equipment. It suits you if you want a truck that feels more polished without going all the way to the top of the range.
• Rebel: This is the trim to consider if you want a more rugged personality and off-road-oriented hardware. It adds a 1-inch lift, skid plates, and hill-descent control.
• Limited Longhorn: This trim leans into premium materials and a more upscale feel. It’s a good fit if you want luxury touches and a more distinctive cabin presentation.
• Limited: This is the most compelling choice if you want the richest interior and the most premium-feeling version of the truck. It adds leather, open-pore wood, a 12-inch portrait-oriented screen, and available tech like a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and surround-view camera system.
• TRX: This is the extreme performance and off-road model, with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and Bilstein active performance shocks. It’s the one to buy if you want maximum power and serious desert-running capability.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check the exact equipment on any trim before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,786 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,555, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $35,826 sits slightly below last year's $37,318.

That softer pricing trend suggests the truck has become a little more buyer-friendly in the used market. For a future seller, that means you should expect some pressure on resale if the market stays soft.

At the same time, the Ram’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand. Trucks with a good reputation for comfort and refinement tend to stay appealing to used shoppers, especially when they’re well equipped and in clean condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 RAM 1500 safe?

The Ram 1500 earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and IIHS gives it Good marks across the board except for Marginal grades for seat belt reminders and LATCH ease of use.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety story is mixed because advanced driver-assistance features are not standard. Automatic emergency braking is not standard across the board, and blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning are all optional or bundled.

That means you should pay close attention to the exact safety equipment on the truck you’re considering. The IIHS caveats on seat belt reminders and LATCH ease of use are also worth noting if you plan to use the back seat often.

Should I buy a 2023 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model adds an available reconfigurable 12-inch gauge cluster and keeps the Ram’s upscale cabin and smooth ride front and center.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,590, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $35,826 average.
• It blends comfort, utility, technology, and driving character in a well-rounded package.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current used-market choice, the 2023 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2022 is still a compelling alternative because it delivers much of the same comfort-first appeal for less.
